We had the good fortune of connecting with Darrin Reay and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Darrin, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from Sheridan Wyoming and growing up where I did let me pursue my interests at a young age. I always wanted to be out in nature exploring wild places and learning about everything around me and how it all interacts. I was surround by wild places in Wyoming and isolated enough that I developed a pioneers attitude of “I can do this because I have to attitude.”

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am first and foremost a rock hound and prospector and that has led me into silversmithing to use my treasures to create one of a kind pieces of jewelry and mementos for people on top of that I’m a beekeeper and a farmer and I’ve set up Colorado’s second apitherapy business where you can meditate inside a hut with a million bees and feel the vibrations and breathe the pheromones from them all while running a contracting business and jetting around the world filming survival shows for discovery channels Naked and Afraid

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As I live on the West slope I like to take people on dual Desert Mountain adventures generally starting with rattlesnake arches above Grand Junction the second largest collection of arches in the world from there headed through gateway towards Natarita and the Canyon country and then hooking up towards teluride into the San Juan Mountains and taking ophir pass over to Silverton and showing people the beautiful majestic San Juan Mountains and you can’t go to Silverton without a good stop at the Avalanche Brewing Company for a beer in the best meal available in the mountains

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’ve had too many mentors in my life to mention anyone in particular. I don’t know if they all recognized my potential and helped me out or if I subconsciously sought them out, but at every juncture in my life, the mentor I needed found me when I needed them and my shout out needs to go to everyone willing to mentor a promising individual
