Meet Betsy Botsford | Fine Art Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Betsy Botsford and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a photographer. The camera is an extension of my Self. It is not so much a tool or a technical machine but rather an outlet of expression. I have this idea that whatever we are drawn to in our life, whatever makes us say “I really want to do that” is what our soul is calling us to do. That is where our gift lies. I have learned that when we use our gift we begin to soar. I started being serious about photography because I have always dreamed of being a photographer. I have always been enthralled with the creation of images, the joy of capturing memories that last forever in the form of a photograph. But I wanted to do something even bigger than that. I didn’t want to just pocket the money from sales of my photography. I wanted to live a life of service. That’s what Point of Light Photo is for me. The profits always go to organizations involved in feeding homeless people, providing shelter, rescuing abused, abandoned or sick animals. That I what I am most proud of and I think what sets me apart from other photographers. I want others to know about the Good that is generated from the sales of my work. I want others to know that by supporting Point of Light Photo they are participating in changing the world for the better in a small way. Each of us can be one small point of light, but by working together and giving of ourselves we can be a light in the world. That’s what I hope the world sees when they think of Point of Light Photo.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a week to hang out with my best friend, we’d definitely start in Ouray Colorado for dinner at The Brickhouse. The food is to die for and a good martini is amazing when sitting on the upper outdoor patio watching the world go by. We’d finish the night with a soak in the natural hot springs. In the morning it is a ride up Red Mountain Pass to Ironton Park for photography and then on to Molas Pass for a hike up the Colorado trail. The views are spectacular! A few nights in Silverton are also a must with high mountain hike, wildflower photography and watching the stars at night. Finally a stay in Yankee Boy Basin followed by a hike to Blue Lakes is the best way to finish the week. Maybe a second meal at the Brickhouse because how can you go wrong with good food after a long hike!? I won’t turn it down. 🙂
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
So many people deserve a little credit in my story. Personally, I credit my family for love, support and encouragement. My family includes my Dad, my brother Jed, my sister-in-law Ann and my two nephews Orion and Cedar. But my family extends to my friends who are always encouraging and keep me smiling. Professionally, there are many photographers who inspire me everyday, Jim Stein, Jim McGovern, Todd Miller, Jim Livingston. These are my mentors and my friends. Without them I wouldn’t be where I am today. I am grateful for their presence in my life.
