We had the good fortune of connecting with Betsy Jennings and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Betsy, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Owning real estate changed my life, and helping other people make smart investments in real estate is something that I have become very passionate about since starting my career in real estate. There are so many benefits of home ownership, from pride of ownership, to feelings of stability, but the financial benefits of real estate ownership are what I believe can make huge financial impacts for people. I love working with first-time home buyers, specifically, and helping them take the first steps toward home ownership. It’s something that I have found to be incredibly impactful within my real estate career.

Real estate, historically, has proven to be a great strategy for building wealth. Compared to other asset classes, like stocks, bonds, cash, and annuities, real estate is an excellent class for building wealth. Part of the reason for that is due to the fact that real estate is an inflation protected asset. Inflation protected assets provide a hedge against the rise of goods and services over time, by performing well in times of higher inflation.

As we are seeing now, as inflation rises, so have home prices, and so have property owners’ equity. Meanwhile, for most property owners, their monthly mortgage rate remains fixed as other costs rise, providing a stable cost in a world of unpredictable price changes for most living costs. These factors can help contribute to more financial stability, even in the most unstable of times.

When people think about real estate investing, they might think of buying rental properties, or other traditional “investment” type properties, but I have seen firsthand how wealth can be built through smart investments in our own personal, primary homes. For me personally, investing in real estate, starting with our first home purchase about seven years ago, and continuing to simply focusing on buying, renovating, and selling our own primary residences, has been a financial game-changer for my family.

I am passionate about helping more people take advantage of the opportunity to own real estate, while taking the mystery and stress out of the process. For people who feel that owning real estate is out of reach due to current circumstances, or who just don’t know where to start, I would encourage you to reach out to a trusted real estate professional or mortgage lender to make a plan to work toward home ownership.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I came into real estate following a 7-year career as a teacher. I was very intentional from the beginning of my real estate career about running my business in a different way. I wanted to challenge the status quo with a focus on education, rather than traditional sales tactics and strategies that are so commonly employed in our industry. I have found a lot of crossover between what I did as a teacher and what I do as a Realtor. Both of these roles involve setting expectations, being available and listening, and communicating effectively throughout the process. I have found that social media is an amazing platform for marketing my business in such a way, because it is so easy to share information and connect with a wide variety of people in a very genuine way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I may be biased as a resident of downtown Loveland, but I love everything downtown Loveland has to offer; from cozy coffee shops, to boutiques, breweries, and restaurants. A few of my personal favorites in downtown Loveland are Feel Love Coffee, Vintage Willows and Pilar boutiques, Henry’s Pub, and Verboten Brewing. Sweetheart Winery is another must-stop in Loveland, where you can enjoy a wine flight and charcuterie on the lawn of their beautiful, riverside property. Of course, as a mom of young children, I’m always looking for ways to entertain the kids, so a trip to Fort Collins to visit Garden Sweet farm to pick fresh berries and flowers, or a trip to Lee Martinez Farm would also be on my must-stop locations in Northern Colorado.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my employing broker, Lori Juszak, owner of Juszak Realty. Lori has been an incredible mentor in real estate, and has offered an incredible amount of support and education.

I would also like to dedicate my shoutout to the two other co-founders of Gather and Collab, a networking group we founded together; Rachel Cox, owner of Lumen Creative Co. and Heidi Allam, owner of Blend Nutrition. These two women have been an amazing source of inspiration and community for me, after becoming self-employed in early 2020 and dealing with the loneliness that can come with both being self-employed, along with everything that was 2020. The community we have built together through Gather and Collab has been a huge inspiration as well!
