Meet Su Wang | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Su Wang and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Su, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
When the COVID-19 pandemic started, I began doing traditional art again, something I studied in my childhood. My family always said, “You’re artistically talented. You should be an artist.” I thought they were funny. Many people can do art, and everyone wants to be an artist. It sounded like a dream.
But after a few years, my home was full of my artwork. When my 30th birthday was approaching, I decided to hold an exhibit as a birthday gift. I showed 36 pieces in my first exhibit. Nobody knew who I was; just a few people walked in. Even though the visitors did not know what traditional Chinese art was, the show was still significant for me. It gave me the courage to pursue art seriously. It was the few individuals who came in and told me my art was so pretty. At that time, I knew I wanted more people to see my work and the charm of traditional Chinese art.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I moved Fort Collins 5 years ago, Colorado made me fall in love again.
My arts are traditional Chinese painting, also I can do all
“finish work” by my hand
to make the art looks like a finished product,
because Chinese painting use special paper
which is very soft and thin.
History-
Chinese painting has a long history. As far back as the
Warring States Period more than 2,000 years ago.
Form-
Chinese painting mainly presents three techniques –
realism (depicting things or real objects as they are),
freehand brushwork (not seeking the exactness of the appearance,
but focusing on the inner spiritual essence),
and fine brushwork (the neatness and meticulousness)

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Fort Collins, you must leave at least half a day to hike in the mountains. After your hike, you should visit one of the many local breweries for a beer. There are many local restaurants and small shops worth visiting in historic Old Town. In the shops, you will find a lot of Colorado-related art from local artists like me. They make unique souvenirs. The next day you can drive an hour to Estes Park, where there are many small shops, and then drive to Rocky Mountain Park to take a look.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank everyone that has ever complimented my art. Their words of support have encouraged me to keep going and have brought much joy to my work. Sometimes in life, you just need a sense of achievement.
