We had the good fortune of connecting with Bob Nightwalker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bob, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After seeing the void left behind by the closing of the wildlife center that was serving Northern Colorado, I knew that we needed to get a new one established. There were hundreds of sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals that weren’t getting the help they needed. There are many compassionate people in this community that now have a place, back in their community again, that they can turn to when they come across wildlife in need.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a wildlife rehabilitator I take in sick, injured, and orphaned wild animals and it’s my job to get them healthy enough to be released back into the wild. Orphaned animals are care for and raised by professionals until they are ready to be released back into the wild. I have been working with non-domesticated animals since the early 90’s and had planned on being a zoo keeper. After some time in a zoo I moved to northern Colorado where I landed a job in a wildlife rehabilitation center. And have been doing it ever since.
When I started at the facility my son was 5 or 6 years old and would come in after school and volunteer. Over the years he would improve his skills and knowledge to the point of becoming licensed himself. Working with my son was always a highlight and something I enjoy. It’s rather unique to have a father/son team that has been rehabilitating together for as long as we have.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would probably take them to Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. I’d also show them around old town Fort Collins and check out the shops and the restaurants there.. The Pawnee grassland and buttes are also a pretty cool place to go for hikes and scenery.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I think my shout out would be to the staff at Northern Colorado Wildlife Center who have dedicated their lives to the tireless work that they do for our local wildlife. I also would give a shout out to my daughter Ayla, who loves to volunteer at events and whose compassion and determination is inspirational.
