Meet Bob Parr | Tattoo Artist and Studio Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Bob Parr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bob, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I was chosen by the passion inside me to make art. I was born with the drive to be creative and I really have no choice. I can not ignore the drive a passion to create. Also, I have trouble dealing with normal types of work situations. I have to be in a creative field and I’m not capable of working for someone else who is restrictive and who wants to try to control my every move. In a creative field, it’s important to really be able to have all of the control of my product and movements. Also, I have found in the past that lots of tattoo shop owners are only out for themselves and they are not trying to uplift their workers and support them. They are only in it for themselves. I want to be in control all the time with every detail in every movement.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve been an artist since I was a child. I was always into drawing and being creative. My mother put me in to private art classes when I was in elementary school where I got to try out lots of different mediums and I was immersed in group drawing classes drawing from real life and working with high school and college instructors while in elementary school. Then throughout all of my schooling, I focused on fine arts. I was in special schools that focused on the arts and I was also interested in theatre throughout all of my schooling. I went to fine arts college and received scholarships to help pay for college.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve been working with a Professional Coaching Program called The Force of Focus which is led by my head coach Michael Getz. It’s a professional Coaching group out of Clive, IA for tattooists and creatives.
