We had the good fortune of connecting with Bonnie Schutz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bonnie, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind my success is my ability to connect with others and establish trusted relationships. I believe in integrity and in being ethical. I value “people.” I value my connections. I believe this is what has catapulted me into becoming a successful business leader in my industry and the growing recognition and edification of my brand.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
After 27 years in corporate America I came to the conclusion that I needed more. Something more challenging that allowed me to be me. I wanted to tap into the creative mind I have. I wanted to utilize the skills I’d gained, silently working alongside C-level executives and business owners. Thus the birth of Tandem Resource Solutions. It started as a side hustle recruiting administrative professionals, then became my full-time gig (by choice and encouragement of others), two years in. Aside from recruiting, to fill in the gaps, I became a virtual assistant. In all reality, when my execs traveled, I was already a virtual assistant that sat in their office. When I put it out there to the world, people came out from the woodwork asking to work for me. Wow! Me? So humbling… So, we evolved into an admin recruiting firm and virtual assistance agency. Today, I have approximately 35 virtual assistants supporting clients for my business. I’m so excited to see the year over year growth as we learn from wins and losses, learn from each other and learn from our network of collaborators and referral partners. I am so indebted to the corporate bosses I had, when unbeknownst to them, they were teaching me the ropes. What I learned from them transitioned me into a CEO quite well. Now I feel very accomplished and successful in my industry, and of course, didn’t get here alone. Another Shoutout to my AMAZING team – whom I am especially proud of. I love supporting single moms, SAHM’s, military wives, and women who’ve been aged-out of corporate roles as VAs on my team. They rock! It has not been easy being an entrepreneur, but when it works, it works, and is so fulfilling!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My city is Littleton, CO, a southwest suburb of Denver, CO. If I had to plan a week with a friend to check out the best spots, I’d have to list places like Red Rocks for a concert (a world renowned place where icons have performed), a visit to the 16th St. Mall in downtown Denver, maybe a trip to the northern end of Colorado Springs to see the famous Air Force Academy, Garden of the Gods and the Pikes Peak roadway. We may hop over to my friend’s swanky co-working space & restaurant in the infamous area of Cherry Creek, where I’ve been lucky to be in the company of greatness, Peyton Manning, former Denver Bronco QB! If it’s winter, of course I’d need to take them to my favorite mountain town of Breckenridge and to the Breckenridge Brewery. On our way we’d go through South Park, CO, made famous by the cartoon/tv show of the same name. The evenings would be hanging out on my front porch with a good beer, enjoying the fresh air and cool breezes. There may be at least one trip to a club or two, but I’m aging out of that these days. Ha! Been there, done that. I’d introduce my friend to my local friends and hang out with them because they’re fabulous!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I dedicate this Shoutout to the many behind the scenes administrative professionals I’ve worked with directly or indirectly over my 30+ year career. I dedicate to those that are working to bring recognition to my field as a legitimate career choice and not just a job or stepping stone into something else, namely The Admin Awards and Sunny Nunan, their CEO. There are several thought-leaders in my industry I follow and respect, but always find myself thinking back to the person that helped me find my passion for administrative work and guided me into greatness, Ms. Debbie Buker – long time friend and my most respected mentor!
