We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandi Ashman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandi, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Diving into creative pursuits is the only thing that has ever made me feel happy and so I always knew from a young age that I needed work in a field that allowed me to have creative freedom. There were a few times in my life where I worked in the corporate office type of envirnment and I was really unhappy. As I began studying Numerology, I learned that my destiny number was a 3 and this is someone who is destined to express themself. And it really resonated and since then, more creative opportunities have continued to unfold for me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My professional and creative life has been an ever evolving journey. I started out as a makeup artist about 20 years ago. I wanted to be a famous makeup artist and at the time when I was trying to build my portfolio. I didn’t love how my work was being photographed, so I took it upon myself to learn photography (2010?) to photograph my work. After about 6 months of doing that, I fell in love with photography and makeup artistry had taken the back seat. I was also partnered with a filmmaker/film student at the time and he had taught me everything video/film he was learning. He was the biggest influence on me for really pursuing this as a career. Fast forward, I was a portrait and wedding photographer.

I then had grown tired of the lack of creative control and decided that I wanted to pursue branding content in about 2015. I had zero experience, so I had reached out to businesses I wanted to work with and offered to give them each one project for free. From there, I had been offered contract agency work.

When I moved to Colorado, the pandemic hit shortly after and there wasn’t an agency to hire me. So I dove in social media marketing, as I saw that there was a need to really focus on creating an online community and having a video and photo background make me extra hireable.

I also was offering tarot and numerology readings, as I grew up with that background and have been reading for 20+ years. I like to integrate those tools when looking at launch dates, business names, and more with clients.

As far as challenges go, I don’t look at them as a negative. We can’t evolve and become better without being challenged in any facet of life.

The biggest lesson for me has been to follow what feels exciting. It most likely won’t be the outcome of where you want to be but it will lead to the next person or opportunity that will take you there. And it’s constantly shifting and we grow and our preferences expand.

And the thing that I would want the world to know about me/my brand is that I try to be very intentional when working with someone. I always want it to be a co-creative process. I do believe that I channel my ideas and readings and that I’m supposed to help others tell their story.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My first place to drink and grab food would be TRVE Brewing. Metal music, really good beer and the chicken is soooo good. Plus they offer vegan and GF options, which a lot of my friends have those dietary retrictions. South Broadway is probably my favorite neighborhood to bring friends-we love vintage shopping. Mutiny on Broadway is another unique place in that area-I grew up obsessed with comics and they have plenty of those, along with a little cafe.

Other places to stop by in Denver would be Nurture-it’s a wellcare center but they have great food and cocktails and coffee.

Death & Co is my other favorite cocktail bar. It’s located inside of The Ramble and it’s stunning inside.

A balance of nature and city is what I mainly aim for.

I feel like everyone needs to see Red Rocks, The Red Rocks Beer Garden is another favorite spot in that area. And of course, Garden of the Gods, I am from Colorado Springs originally and it’s a must see.

And out of the more well-known mountain towns, Breckenridge is my favorite.
And if there is time, RMNP.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are a lot of friends and supporters who have all be catalysts for me in some way. I have really supportive friends who get just as excited as I do about seemingly unrealistic pursuits but those are the best people to have around. My bestfriends back home have always been my biggest supporters (Jenny, Crystal, Lauren, etc).

And the people I’ve forged friendships with here in Denver have been important influences, such as my friend Miranda (Roz Events) for including me in her celebrity events and my friend Marianne (Ritual Within/Wild Abundance Events) who introduced me to the curated market world.

But I honestly think that the Universe is responsible-along with myself. When I first started working for myself, it was during the pandemic, during a time that I had just relocated to the Denver area. I had moved to Colorado without a job or plan, as my mother was just diagnosed with cancer (so I moved to be near her), my best friend of 20 years had passed away, my partner of almost a decade exited my life (all within 3 months) and I was jobless in a new city not knowing anyone.
I had to dig myself out of what I considered my rock bottom and build a business and a new life from scratch.
