We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Glasscock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have always had a passion, an eye and a love for all things design. With a background in graphic design, I have looked at other industries for inspiration and influence, whether that be interior, architecture, fashion or furniture. Styling my own home with vintage items I have collected over the years and always new furniture to love. My home got pretty full and I decided to part ways with some, just selling on Facebook Marketplace and Instagram. That turned into a side hobby/hussle, realizing there was a nitch of people after the same things I was.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have worked as a graphic designer in Wichita for almost 20yrs both freelance and with full service agencies. I got let go from a full time position at the beginning of COVID. That is when I desired to pursue this vintage furniture business full time. Taking my knowledge of Branding and the advertising industry and using it for me know business. I love creative the version someone has for their idea and business, it was a little different doing it for myself. But it does feel a bit more rewarding. Working in an agency you can tend to feel overlooked or maybe under utilitzed. Once you are your own boss and you really have nothing else to lose, its pretty amazing what you find out you are capable of.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are some really good little pockets around Wichita. Revolutsia (across the street from my shop) is a nice spot with local food and drinks as well as other small businesses. I would probably try to take them to see a concert most liking at the Wave. Morning coffee at some local coffee shops Leslies Coffee or Reverie. Happy Hour drinks at Morts maybe Public for dinner, other ther dinner spots would include The Belmont, The Anchor. Late night drinks would probably end at Lucky or Lava and Tonic.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents have supported me throughout this venture, may that be with a place to store furniture, funds and extra muscle when I need help loading / moving furniture. Wichita itself has a pretty good reputation of supporting new and local small businesses, most people like the community feel of it.
