We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon Homell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brandon, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
A recent book I’ve read that’s had an impact on my career would have to be The Creative Act: A way of being. This book shares ways to avoid second guessing your creativity and allowing your art to speak for itself. It’s really provided me a bigger push into making the most of a current situation and trusting the process in early stages of starting your own business. There will always be something that may creep in and question your art. But the key is to stay confident in your ability and to create in a way that allows you to progress past the challenges.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My style and growth in multiple floral avenues has set me apart from other florists. I’ve had the opportunity to tap into some stage design elements, installations for photo shoots, everyday arrangements, wedding floral, and styled collabs. Using an overgrown look, I’m definitely no stranger to greenery and filler elements. I always say there’s no bloom that can’t be the star of the show.
My brand also involves giving something back to this Denver community. Which come in the form of boxes of floral for free to share my art and hopefully put a smile on the face of a stranger. These also offer discounts on custom orders if interested. Or in the form of a collaboration as a chance to win tickets to a show. We only ever ask that whoever finds these floral treasures also share and tags us to help spread the love. A timeline is set, a neighborhood decided, and then a drop is posted. Happy hunting!
There are always challenges when working for yourself, especially in the beginning stages. The easy part was creating and putting in the work to achieve a finished product. The challenges with that always seem to hit when it comes to expectations I have for myself and sometimes constantly manipulating the product until the very last minute. When it’s clearly finished. I’ve always dreamed of working with my hands in a way that I was creating something eye catching and curated to my clients and more so my community. Sharing my art is something I struggled to picture for myself as an adult because I was too concerned about what the world thought I should be doing. Growing up in a time where our society still frowned upon doing something for yourself and following passion. These challenges and what were once constant battles via conversation lead me to really keep pushing for something that I was truly meant for.
The lessons will never stop as I continue on to further this dream. And I think that’s the beauty of it all. Being able to recognize something that may need tweaked for a future experience is the only way real growth happens. And navigating other realms in this industry has taught me to really take hold of my creative process. Working with other creatives in general puts a lot of things in perspective and has certainly paved the way for several collab moments. This one phrase is always in the back of my mind when I think about who I have in my corner. Surround yourself with those who help create change.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my go to places are all over Denver. I’d first start the trip off with one of my favorite coffee spots. I don’t know about anyone else. But I love seeking out a great coffee joint when visiting somewhere new. So Ti cafe on Broadway would be first on our to do list. Followed by some roller blading around Wash Park. Then lunch at Kaos Pizza on Pearl street and a walk around the neighborhood. Later in the day we’d probably hit a Happy Hour Spot downtown. The Mezcal margs at La Diabla will stay a forever fav! Shortly after that we’d be on our way to grab some dinner and then head out to a concert. I’m all about the music scene here and Globe hall is a great spot to grab some bbq and check out a show. If there’s time, a quick stop into Fort Greene bar and then dancing in Five Points at 715 Club. The days following would probably involve lots of exploring in some of my favorite mountain towns. Nederland, Georgetown and Buena Vista to name a few. Some hiking, kayaking, brewery visits, etc.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s a long list no doubt of friends, family, and members of this community that have continued to show me all the love and support. As well as my partner, who not only noticed the joy it brought me to be in floral, but the potential. So with that being said, it truly wouldn’t feel right to dedicate this shoutout to anyone or anything else other than the people I surround myself with day in and day out. Some of them who see me from a far and others who are next to me here in Colorado.
