We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandy Parrino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandy, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have been reselling my thrifted finds off and on since 2004. Late 2021 I was promoted at my 9-5 and realized I was unhappy with the work I was doing. I wanted more time to pursue my passions and I wanted to do something that allowed more freedom and creativity. In February of 2022 I left my career. The day after leaving, my Husband and I took a trip back to Sweden; something we had been holding off on because I could never get the time off. This is why I started MidMod Nomad. While we were in Stockholm we visited every antique store, thrift store and secondhand store we could find. I brought back as much Vintage as I could fit in the four suitcases we thrifted. MidMod Nomad is my love of thrifting midcentury and my love of travel coming together.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I truly love what I do. Yes, there were challenges and there always will be. That’s how you know you’re doing something right, when you’re pushing the envelope and challenging your capabilities. When I first started selling on Instagram, I sold one item my first live sale. I kept going. Why? I was truly enjoying every second of what I was doing. I think my passion around vintage and sharing my knowledge about vintage is what makes me stand out. There is enough vintage for everyone and the more knowledgeable our community is the better the experience for everyone. Although a lot of my tips and tricks are exclusive to my subscribers I’m an open book and will always try my best to help another reseller. I attribute a lot my success to the friendships I’ve built with other people in the vintage reseller community.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Where do I even start? First stop is Queen City Coffee for a yummy coffee. Then we would have to go to Broadway street in Denver; also known as antique row. Some of my favorite antique stores, thrifts and just shops in general are here. Dinner at SuperMegaBien or DOMO is a must!

Being in Colorado there is so much nature so depending on the person I always recommend one of three hikes; Royal Arch, Hanging Lake or Sky Pond. Sky Pond is difficult but so worth it!

We would definitely have to make a trip to Florence CO, the antique capital of Colorado. An entire day flys by in the 20 plus antique stores in this small town.

There aren’t many thrift stores in Boulder, but there are some great food spots. Check out Sushi Zanmai, Tiaco and River and Woods.

End the trip with a Drive to Nederland, lots of trails to hike along the way and enjoy some Pizza at crosscut.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people to thank but I owe a lot of who I am and what I do to my Gammie. I spent a lot of my summers at my grandparents house and she would take me thrifting; teaching me about all the vintage that collected dust at the thrift stores. Her and my Papa also grew my love of traveling. They traveled quite a bit and loved sharing all their stories and the pieces they brought back from their trips. I live by a quote my Gammie always repeated to me; “Wherever your mind wanders is where your heart belongs.”
