We had the good fortune of connecting with Brendan Stouffer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brendan, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My freelance automotive-focused photography and videography business had a seamless start from my young passion for photography and cars. To be honest, there wasn’t much thought behind starting the business, because it really just stemmed from doing what I liked to do in my freetime. What was originally a passionate hobby for me eventually turned into the realization that I was getting good enough to where I felt like I could charge for photos and deliver a product that I was proud of. Photo and video businesses are interesting because the barriers to entry and capital needed is only as intense as you want it to be. For me, I started out on a $400 camera setup, and have now over tens of thousands into it. Starting a business in the creative world was the perfect way to leverage my distinct style in order to share it with others.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
For me, the most exciting part of my journey so far was expanding upon my photo and video business into producing prints and selling them on my ecommerce site. More specifically, most of the images that I was selling during the period that my store was open was actually of my own car, a 1988 BMW 635csi, which was a huge win-win for me. What this allowed me to do was to venture to the most dramatic landscapes in Colorado, sometimes with the presence of the milky way and thousands of stars, and was able to capture moments that no one else was. This is really where my photography started to differentiate, because not many young photographers have unrestricted access to cars that have a cult following. It should be mentioned that I bought this car through my automotive photo/video creation company.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Without a doubt my favorite landscape and most recommend spot of Colorado is Rocky Mountain National park. No matter if it’s sunrise, sunset, foggy, or snowy, the terrain is so powerful and unique – it is a must see. Of course, if you are up in that area I recommend stopping by the Stanley hotel to grab a drink and Nepal’s Cafe or Bird & Jim for dinner.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to recognize one of my closest friends, Drew May, for his undeniable support for my craft. Drew consistently fueled my fire with his excitement for each piece of work that I produced. He would always take the time to watch every video I made, and he even had an entire board of my automotive images hung in his bedroom. Without a doubt, Drew has paid me some of the nicest compliments along the way, so I thank him for keeping me inspired to keep pushing.
