We had the good fortune of connecting with Brenton Saylor and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brenton, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I grew up on government housing with little resources & I was tired of being broke. I started hustling at a young age to obtain money. I seen the poor environment I was surrounded by and wanted to figure a way out.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Mile High Minute is a Denver-based hip-hop blog that focuses on promoting local artists, music, and events within the Denver hip-hop scene. It features interviews, music reviews, and coverage of shows, helping to spotlight emerging talent and foster community engagement in the local music culture. The blog aims to connect artists with fans and keep the community informed about the latest happenings in hip-hop. What sets Mile High Minute apart from others is being the first hip-hop focused blog in Colorado to stay consistent & gain national attention! I am most proud of the consistent growth within the scene but not satisfied. There is a lot more work to be done. We got here by loving what we do & staying consistent. It was never easy, there were plenty of hardships, no’s, late nights, sleepless nights & dangerous situations we have been in to make this brand a national staple. It’s easy to overcome challenges when you have a genuine passion & love for what you’re doing. I’ve learned that as a music blogger it is a double edged sword and you will go crazy trying to please everyone. Know when to say no & accept criticism comes with the game. I want the world to know that if you would like to take your brand to the next level in the Colorado hip-hop market we can help you out!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would probably hit a sporting event! Most likely a Rockies, Nuggets or CSU Rams game up in Fort Collins. We would definitely have to hit a local mexican restaurant. Some of my favorite spots are the North Denver Chubby’s, Tamale Kitchen or Illegal Pete’s. We would have to go hit the mountains for a hike. Red Rocks, Lookout Mountain & Boulder all come to mind.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to all of my friends & family who have stuck with me throughout my journey & believed in me. Through this process I lost a lot of people who I thought were in my corner but I have a tight knit group of people who have always stayed around. Shoutout to all of my peers within the Colorado hip-hop scene that have looked out for me and have shown genuine love for Mile High Minute!
