We had the good fortune of connecting with Breonn Lyons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Breonn, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
It would definitely be, “Bet on yourself.” This quote reminds me that I can trust that everything will work out for me as long as I give it an honest effort. To me, it means that you’re the only one who knows the details of your vision- you’re the only one who can make that one specific painting, create that specific show, or what have you. So trust that you’re well equipped enough to make it happen. Take the risks you know you need to take. I like this quote because you are reclaiming  your power.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

Yes, right now I want to make a series that explores the current human need for duration. I’m very excited for the pieces I’ll be making as I experience more life and more people. As of now, I can say that my art has been a lot more careful, with even more detail and intention. I’ve been very into that recently; giving more of myself to my work. As someone whose brain is always firing off with ideas, I’ve had to learn how to rest, which has been tricky for me. So I guess I can say I’m always busy professionally. Professional work and personal work are synonymous for me, since my work IS me.

As far as getting to where I am now, I would say I owe it to moving in integrity, and a lot of trusting myself, my intentions, and my process. I’ve said no to a lot of things that would’ve resulted in my values being compromised, as I’m sure a lot of women can relate to, unfortunately. On the other hand, some of the challenges I’ve had were ones that I claimed mentally, so I’m trying to be more conscious of where my energy goes.

Something that has changed my perspective on my career is realizing that if you wait for someone else to validate your creativity, you’ll be waiting forever. You already are dope, just keep going, and what you want will eventually present itself, it has to. If you’re talented and aren’t afraid to grind, there is literally no difference between you and who’s on the screen except for exposure. This really hit me when I started getting into bigger rooms and saw certain things for what they really were, and was treated a certain way based on where I was at in my success at the time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A sunrise hike through Red Rocks! Sunrise is my favorite time of day. I’d always recommend Denver Biscuit Company or 3 Margs for food. Id wanna go horseback riding, or even kayaking. I’d also say the Sand Dunes at either dusk or dawn. We’d do a lot of things outdoors!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this to my father. That man has one of the strongest and biggest hearts that I’ve ever experienced love from. He not only protects me, but my dream as well. I thank him for the sacrifices he makes for me to do what I love. He’s also extremely talented himself.
