We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Dennis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Showing up. Even when I don’t feel like it. Even when the motivation isn’t there. Discipline always beats motivation, and that mindset has carried me through a lot.

I try to get a little better every day. Whether it’s as a business owner, a dad, or just a human being. I’m always learning, always adjusting. I’ve failed, pivoted, and rebuilt more times than I can count, but each time I’ve come back sharper.

I also move with urgency. I don’t wait around for permission or the perfect moment. If something needs to get done, I figure it out. Plans are great, but execution is everything.

Most people overthink. I’d rather outwork. I’d rather outlearn. That’s the habit I’ve built, keep moving, stay focused, and never let one bad day turn into two.

That mindset has helped me build, rebuild, and keep growing, no matter what’s thrown my way.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m building Tectus, an on-demand security platform designed to make it simple for people and businesses to get professional security, exactly when and where they need it.

We’re still pre-launch, but the vision is clear: make booking security fast, reliable, and professional. No more calling around. No more waiting on quotes. No more wondering if the people showing up actually know what they’re doing. With Tectus, clients can quickly book professional security through a streamlined platform, whether it’s for an event, executive protection, secure transport, retail security, or mobile patrol.

Everything we’re building is with the client in mind. Ease of use, trust, and accountability are baked into the experience. You should be able to request security the same way you handle any other essential service, quickly and confidently, without second-guessing whether you’re protected.

Getting here hasn’t been easy. I’ve made mistakes. I’ve pivoted. I’ve gone through the highs and lows of building something from scratch. But I’ve also learned how to keep going when things get hard, how to lead without a playbook, and how to trust my vision, even when others don’t see it yet.

What I want people to know is this: Tectus isn’t just another security company. It’s a better way to book protection.

We’re here to give clients control, clarity, and confidence, and we’re just getting started.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If one of my best friends was visiting for a week, here’s how it would go.

We’d kick things off at Lake Pueblo, rent some jet skis, get out on the water, and do some fishing. It’s one of my favorite places to relax. We’d also fish the Arkansas River and Valco Ponds to switch it up. Between those three, we’re covering a lot of water.

At some point, we’d make the drive up to the Denver metro for Brother’s BBQ, specifically on Thursday for the beef ribs. They only serve them once a week, and they don’t miss. No need to overhype it, they’re just good.

We’d go to the Pueblo Riverwalk, walk around, grab some food, and hang out by the water. It’s a great spot to wind down and catch up. Plenty of restaurants along there, so we’d try a few different ones throughout the week.

The rest of the trip would be pretty chill, maybe catch a game, check out a few local spots, and take a drive through the mountains just to reset. Nothing fancy. Just good food, good views, and a week well spent.

I want to dedicate this shoutout to my beautiful wife, Dani-Lynn, and our two amazing kids.
They push me every single day to keep growing and improving. Everything I’m building is for them. They’re my motivation, my support system, and the reason I keep showing up, even on the hard days. My family makes me want to be the best version of myself, and I’m beyond grateful for them.
