We had the good fortune of connecting with Brette Robertson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brette, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic and creative career, because ever since I was little I always would gravitate towards the arts. Art was my saving grace, and was a way for me to express myself. I was a late talker; I didn’t really speak until I was 5 years old. So, art was always a way for me to show who I was when I couldn’t find the words to do so. It wasn’t when I was 12 years old when I developed an interest in making movies. I’d write scripts and direct my friends in my neighborhood. We all had a lot of fun, but for me it was more serious. This is what I knew I wanted to pursue. I attended Denver School of the Arts, where I graduated high school. I was in their video major, and that’s where I really honed in on my craft. I continued studying my love of filmmaking at The University of Colorado, Boulder- where I really challenged my self academically. This is where we learned experimental film, and vintage 8mm and 16mm film. I really loved this type of filmmaking, because I have always had an artistic and unique style of filmmaking, instead of a more traditional film. After school, I was still utilizing my degree and would create promotional type work for small businesses and entrepreneurs. I never thought I would get into weddings, until I filmed my first wedding as an assistant for this wedding video company. I ended up loving it, and that’s when I knew that was what I wanted to do – capture love stories. I always had some sort of romantic element in my films, so it wasn’t really surprising that I would get into the wedding industry. Wedding Videography then led to Wedding Flowers- I worked a side job at a local grocery store in Boulder in the Floral Department, and I really fell in love with flowers. I wanted to learn everything possible about the world of flowers and floral design. I soon got a job at a flower shop in Lafayette as an assistant flower designer, and everything just came together. I learned a lot from the other designers there, but what I really knew was that I wanted to get into wedding flowers. So, I did just that and taught myself everything I needed to know. Flowers then led into Coordinating and Planning, and this when I knew this is exactly what I am supposed to do. Every time I work a wedding, a spark is always lit in my heart and I truly am happy with what I am doing. Weddings really relates to my film background as well. From the videographers, photographers, catering, bartender, the DJ, floral designers, coordinators, hair & makeup to the guests, it really is a entire production and I love how everything comes together to celebrate someone’s love and union. Weddings are really in my blood, and it is even better that I can utilize my artistic desires and creativity. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is Happily Ever Sparkle | Weddings & Events, and I offer wedding flowers, coordination/planning, videography and photography. Not all at once, but whatever you need- I got you! I definitely am more passionate about wedding flowers, and that’s what I focus more on. I am different than other wedding companies, because I am like a one stop shop- offering a variety of different wedding needs for your special day. Each wedding I do, I always add my unique, creative touch and do my best to make your vision come alive. I am most proud of how far I came and all the experience I have gotten along the way. I am excited about all my future and present goals and seeing all of it come to fruition. It was a long journey of uncertainty, frustrations and accomplishments, but it really got me to where I am now. There were times I wanted to give up, and or it got too difficult and knew I couldn’t sustain this lifestyle. But, there’s something inside of me that tells me I can’t give this up. This is really my dream and lifelong passion, and I will make it all happen. I overcome all my challenges by simply pushing through and learning from my mistakes. I understand that some failures and lessons are actually blessings in disguise. At the time, they don’t seem like it, but they really do make you better and stronger at what you do. I wouldn’t be who I am today if it wasn’t for those failures and mistakes. What I want the world to know is that in whatever I do, I always will put my artistic and unique sparkle on things. My brand is “leave a little sparkle wherever you go” ; I want to make your wedding day an everlasting experience that sparkles forever.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate my parents and family who supported all my wild and outlandish dreams growing up, and for also being an acting roll in my short films. I’d also like to thank all the teachers and mentors that showed me and taught me filmmaking, floral design and wedding planning along the way. And, lastly I’d like to thank all my couples and clients. If it wasn’t for all of them, I wouldn’t be able to do what I love as a living.
