Meet Brian McCulley | Talent Developer and Acting Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brian McCulley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brian, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I understand the difficulty of starting out as an actor and learning to navigate a notoriously fluid industry. One of the most valuable things that I have learned is that there are many ways to gather information and try to make your place in the industry, but you must also find an angle that is unique to your own skills and strengths. That’s why I opened my coaching program – so I can help actors reach their goals by teaching them more than just the basics and giving them access to the tools they need to flourish in their career. With this additional knowledge and insight, they know they have something valuable to offer in such a rapidly changing field. Equipped with advanced knowledge and understanding where you fit and true belief in what you have to offer you will have the best chance to succeed in the long term.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We work with all types of people that want to have an acting career. We have many hobbyists, some that work only locally and many who work across the US on many popular well known TV shows and films and earn good compensation for their creative work.
Consistency moving forward can be a challenge, most people goto coaches to find a forward thinking mindset, we as coaches and actors as clients will get best results by always growing and by adjusting what is working and to disrupt what is not working. It is a ever changing space and as coaches we have to adapt with the the changes in the industry as close to real time as possible. We believe you must coach what is working now.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a good friend coming to town and I had to come up with a plan of what they should see I would recommend the following:
1. Meow Wolf – Denver
2. Red Rocks (Daytime)
3, Any concert at Red Rocks ( Night)
4. Day trip to the mountains. (Light hiking to see a great view.)
5. Live comedy show on the river bank in Boulder.
6. Pearl Street Boulder
7. Underground music scene in Rhino
8. I would have them stay at the Source hotel. (Great Marketplace)

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I had a proffer in college, we called him Professor Fred, he had a professional writing background and he would tell us that when we think we had a solid paper to bring a $10 roll of quarters to his office and he would review our writing and for every word he could remove without changing our meaning we would give him a quarter, when you ran out of quarters the session was over. From him I learned to be concise and how to write powerfully with the least words possible.
