We had the good fortune of connecting with Brita DeStefano and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brita, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The initial spark for my business came when I was actually out of the workforce staying home with my children when they were younger. When interacting with the community of mothers around me, I realized how little support that parents got regarding their babies’ milestones and how much knowledge I had to share as a pediatric physical therapist. It started with just advising my friends and snowballed from there. I realized that I wanted to show up for parents and families in a way that wasn’t dictated by anyone else but instead by exactly what they/their child needs in that moment. I wanted the freedom to show up for MY family first and foremost and then to create connections in my community and give parents the peace of mind they deserve about their child’s development. Once I had a good grasp on my “why” the rest was a no brainer.

What should our readers know about your business?
Progress Through Play is concierge pediatric physical therapy practice offering in person and virtual support for families. It is a whole new spin on early intervention for children ages birth to 5. I believe that wellness services need to begin at birth and that all parents deserve to have peace of mind about their child’s milestones. I created my practice in order to demystify development and help families be proactive about their child’s health. I have learned first hand as a mom that simplifying the process and making it FUN helps to eliminate parental stress and foster connections within families through PLAY. Progress Through Play offers not only traditional physical therapy services, but developmental wellness sessions, virtual consults, toy/gear recommendations, online courses, downloadable resources and more! I believe that milestones shouldn’t be a mystery and that because children are constantly evolving and growing, that they can’t afford to follow the “wait and see” approach to healthcare. Through my practice I am able to offer parents support and help them meet their child exactly where they are on their own developmental pathway.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We love our little corner of South Denver and love to take friends to breweries and restaurants in our neighborhood. We love South Pearl Street, South Gaylord Street and walks around Wash Park. Out of state visitors will also usually get a tour of Red Rocks or a hike at Mount Falcon. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The most influential person in creating my practice has been my amazing business coach, Dr. Julie Granger. Her support as a friend and coach has pushed me out of my comfort zone in the best way.
