We had the good fortune of connecting with Britnie Gagnon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Britnie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Growing up we all experienced the outdoors through various activities such as sports, travel, and hiking. Now, we enjoy sharing those experiences with our families. Many segments of the outdoor experience are built around a community component, engaging with others with similar views and thoughts about nature and the environment. We love the idea that incredible memories can be created with friends and family through these experiences. Prior to starting our hiking adventures, we’d run road races and obstacle courses and would receive a medal or some swag. We started to think – why isn’t there something that would also commemorate and acknowledge our hiking accomplishments?
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
A couple years ago I had the amazing opportunity to take an adventurous employment opportunity in Yellowstone National Park. I was able to live and work inside America’s first National Park and had the opportunity to explore its diverse landscapes by hiking over 300 miles in one summer. That following spring, the world shutdown, and like many other Americans, we took advantage of a challenging and confusing time when everything in this country seemed to be at a standstill and when the day-to-day routine was suddenly transformed into reconnecting with our families and exploring the great outdoors. So we started hiking – a lot! We began hiking locally in the Northeast and eventually decided to take our travels West to experience the beauty of areas like Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado. Miles into a difficult hike in Grand Teton National Park this idea was born! For over a year our team has transformed some of our favorite hikes and places into illustrated stickers that we can carry with us everywhere we go – on our water bottles, coolers, cars, etc!
I Hiked That understands that there is more to life than the 9-5, paying taxes, and overpriced, materialistic items. We live in a very large country that is full of geographical diversity. Every day we are given the opportunity to get back to our roots and explore the outdoors. Whether you are granted a one-week vacation per year, a nomadic van-lifer, a triple crowner, or just beginning your hiking journey we are here to help you celebrate all your accomplishments, none too big or too small. Everything is worth celebrating!
Our products are designed and created for our supporters to brag about accomplishing something physically, emotionally and mentally tough. Designing products of the places we have visited allowed us to reflect and reminisce on all the memories we created in those parks, and producing merchandise for parks that remain on our bucket list has encouraged us to get out there too.
While we have generated a website and announced our presence on multiple social media platforms we feel that our best networking is done on the trials. We understand that media presence is important with any company this day in age, but we also recognize that our community is often off grid. Reaching our community may be our biggest challenge so far – but one that we are looking forward to tackling!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Nature, Nature, Nature! The backdrop of Denver is the Rocky Mountains… Get Out There! Visiting Rocky Mountain Park (RMNP) is a must. 3 million people visit RMNP annually, and after visiting, it’s easy to see why!. From Denver, you can get to Estes Park in less than an hour and a half. This part of RMNP is known for hikes to the alpine lakes – Bear, Dream, Emerald and Haiyaha. No matter what your hiking ability, there is an alpine lake accessible to you. If you are up for an adventure, take your car across the Ridge Trail Drive to the western entrance of RMNP, crossing the Continental Drive along the way. On this drive you can enjoy the landscape as it changes from 7,000 feet above sea level to 14,000 feet! Be sure to check out the wildlife RMNP has to offer – birds, elk, moose, big horned sheep, marmots, pikas and so much more! Don’t forget your stickers to commemorate your accomplishments!
Just outside the western entrance to RMNP (or a two hour drive directly from downtown Denver) is the quintessential town of Grand Lake. The majestic Rockies climb right out of the edge of the water and there is so much to see and do. Downtown is a great area to grab a meal, do some boutique shopping, and as a launching pad location for doing many outdoor adventures and hiking. Rent a pontoon boat or kayaks, catch a rodeo, or explore some hikes around the lake.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shoutout to all the Park services – whether they are National, State, or Local. Thank you for preserving this beautiful country of ours. Without them, and their efforts to preserve the great outdoors, our hiking adventures, and our business would never have happened.
