We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Thornton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what do you attribute your success to?
I think the most important factor behind my success is the uniqueness of my products. I started off making intention and shaped candles that I sold at farmers markets and craft fairs. That morphed into opening my own brick and mortar storefront where I sell those candles along with other products that my friends make such as bath bombs, incense, tea, crystal jewelry, ect. The things I carry in my store are not things that you would find in a normal gift shop boutique and I am proud of being a safe space where people can find the things they need to help them out on their journey in life.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
There are a lot of gift shops in Colorado as well as a lot of metaphysical shops, I merged the two and made this shop my own. Most of my products are locally handmade, many of them one of a kind. And it’s been really exciting and fun bringing new fellow makers and their products into my storefront. I grew up in Monument, CO, where my store front is located and I’ve lived here my entire life and it has been really neat to become part of the business community as well as making some really awesome friends on this journey. I have previous retail experience working for others but this is my first time ever owning my own small business. It’s definitely had its challenges along the way but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! Being my own boss has been amazing and I learn new things everyday.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Monument is an adorable little town. There are lots of fun shops and little restaurants to check out as well as all the scenery and hiking. So many fun small businesses and easy access to them with all the sidewalks. There’s also all kinds of events in the summertime like concerts in the park (Limbaugh Park) as well as different events during summer evenings. There are also really fun things to do around monument during the holidays such as 4th of July and Christmas. Monument has all the fun of a big town but the quaintness and charm of the little town that it is.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I started making and selling candles back in 2020 at farmers markets and craft fairs. My mom has been there along the way helping out at those fairs and helping me open my storefront that opened October 2021. She’s a fellow small business owner so she’s definitely been there for me with advice and I couldn’t have gotten this far without her!
