Meet Brittney Robinson | Doer of all the things

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Robinson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittney, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
I am self taught. That’s not something I brag about, I like to preface discussions if my career in photography by laying my cards on the table. I am self taught meaning I don’t always do things the proper way. Meaning I’m always learning and making mistakes, but also meaning the work I create was never ever influenced by anyone else. For that I’m proud. For that, I also am learning new things on a daily basis. I appreciate those instances because it grows me.
The most important lesson my career has taught me is that every single human you encounter brings value to you and your art, if they love it, if they hate it, if they don’t even know who you are.
Every person I encounter encourages me to put myself in their shoes and attempt to view my art from their eyes and their mind. It makes me appreciate what I do much more, knowing my work can be perceived in so many different ways.
Frankly, it makes it worth it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Interesting question. What I am most proud about is the fact that as I continue to grow internally and on social media through my art, I’m still holding true to my values and I remain unashamed of who I truly am. I’m so grateful for that. Keeping myself grounded.
Photography was always just a hobby for me. I just simply started stumbling into new and unique opportunities through my work. As I stated before I’m self taught, I’ll be the first to admit I lack camera knowledge and the skill set to “properly” edit photos. It was never about that for me. It was always about stirring the pot, telling the story, making people angry, happy, it doesn’t matter, as long as they feel a strong emotion from my work, I’ll be the bad guy all day.
I say this because my work is considered controversial that’s for sure. People probably assume I’m strongly opinionated by the things I post but really it’s about sparking conversation. Getting people talking about something that matters instead of the kardashians.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Before really exploring the United States these last few years, I lived in over 40 countries in 6 years. I didn’t come home once. After leaving the corporate world for 19 solid years making over six figures without a college degree I realized something much quicker than most.. money meant nothing to me. I didn’t value what I had and I never even took care of my things, after all, they were just things.
So I left the country. Alone. No plan.and my world was forever changed.
Being home since the pandemic, I’ve been able to explore many places in the US and most specifically Colorado.
If my best friend came to visit we would experience as much nature as we could in the trenches. Nothing on the tourist route, after all, that’s not what Denver is truly about.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My mom and I struggled growing up. I was honestly a weirdo due to not understanding my sexuality and even at times being confused about my gender. I also faced severe depression. My family distanced themselves from me because I would date people or do things differently, I believe they thought I was just a teen trying to rebel and doing things simply for the element of surprise.
My mom. My best friend. Instead of turning her back on what she couldn’t at the time understand she did the most beautiful and supportive thing a mom could do.. she stayed with me. She asked me questions and she was determine today seek understanding.
My mom not only has my back, even if I’ve made a mistake. She has encouraged me to be proud of and play off of all of my differences. To celebrate who I am even for the mere fact that I’m not like any other.
The fact that my mom refuses to give up on me is the main reason I get out of bed everyday. I can’t let her down. She’s my Angel and she knows I’m going to make her so proud
