Meet Brooke Dearwester | Brooke Dearwester || Trash Queen

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brooke Dearwester and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brooke, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My thought process behind launching Junk Wranglers took place during a house flip I was doing. Every time I booked a dumpster or called for junk removal it was such a clunky and unreliable experience. I started thinking, “I could do this” and the competition isn’t that stiff – I started shopping competitors and only 20% of the time would I ever hear back from them let alone receive a service. I knew there was room for me at that point, so I quit my job and started Junk Wranglers.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My background is all over the place. I have always been very entrepreneurial; moved to England at 19 to open a coffee shop, started an event planning business in Summit County, flipped houses etc. I have been a stay at home mom, barista, market director for tech staffing and sales, and now… the local trash lady. My life has been anything but linear, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh boy…
First and foremost, karaoke at Ace Hi in Golden, that would be night one followed by a green smoothie at Kona Bowls the next morning to revive us. Walk along the creek to the Farmers Market, depending on the weather, float down it ending at the Golden Mill. Go to the bench (IYKYK), play chess in the park, go for a bike ride, watch the sunset at Deep Roots on the patio and have a fire at my house with all the neighbors. I’d take them to coffee at Humble House and probably drag them to one of my many community events, listen to live music at Goosetown Station, play pool and maybe end up in Black Hawk. Obviously, a trip to the dump would be in order!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Barry Hartman. Barry took me under his wing from the very beginning. I spoke on a trash podcast and he reached out to me and has been my mentor ever since. He runs a very successful junk removal business in Vancouver, BC called 505-Junk, I would be lost without him and his guidance. (Thank you, Barry!)
Also, my daughters, Wyndsor and Revelyn are my biggest cheerleaders and so proud of me. Everyday I wake up reminding myself I’m building this for them.
