We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryan Bull and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bryan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Although while having a successful career in animal law enforcement, it was having an overall negative impact on myself. I wanted to have a career that was fulfilling but not causing me mental turmoil. After losing my dog, who was my everything, found photography. It was a grounding and meditative release. I began taking my camera with me any time I stepped out of the house and went to my regular work. After a few years of shooting and getting comfortable with cameras, I had an epiphany moment of starting a photography business. It started with pet portrait photography, as this is very near and dear to my heart, and has evolved into general free-lance. I stepped away from my long career in law enforcement and investigation and have surrounded myself with photography. I believed the only way to be successful was to go all in and not look back. And I haven’t.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been into the arts, from since I can remember. However, drawing was never my forte, no matter how much I wanted it to be. I played a little bit with my mother’s video camera and loved making my own short films and mockumentaries. I didn’t have a film camera to play with, but whenever we went on a vacation I always got a disposable camera and really enjoyed getting my photos back from being developed. As I got older, I put that part of me to rest for a bit as I focused on a more tangible career and what I thought I was meant to do.

I think my stepping away from arts actually contributes to my art today in a major way. I have lived a life, experienced heart wrenching things and loss. Through that, I like to capture moments as I see them. Hence the brand name of “Though Bullseye”. I want to capture and enhance the emotions present at the time of the photo; joy, sorrow, elatedness, comfort. In the end, you can’t get those moments back, no matter how hard you try.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Red Rocks Amphitheater is my first go to. It is a sight to behold, fun trails and sights, plus after that going down into Morrison and checking the small shops out and eating at The Cow An Eatery. I’m not big on going into the inner city, but whenever I find myself downtown we are usually going to either Cart Driver or Taco’s Tequila and Whiskey.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, my spouse deserves the biggest shout out. With out her support I would still be in mental anguish every day. She is aware of the struggles that come with unstable income, but has been 100% on board. Secondly, a podcast and the podcast community have done wonders for my confidence and education. The Beginner Photography Podcast hosted by Raymond Hatfield. Covering all genres of photography in the business and hobbyist aspects. Hearing interview from other professionals really puts things into perspective. It lets me know I am not alone and my struggles are actually quite common and normal.
