We had the good fortune of connecting with Brynn Hays and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brynn, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I became a mom in 2011 and again in 2016. I worked a full time 9-5 and was missing so much of them growing up that I realized that I didn’t have to do the 9-5 grind, being a mom is my number one priority and love and I needed to find a way to stay home with them. I have always been drawn to the arts from music to theater, so I decided to put that love out there and try to create things that other people would love too. I made a couple of mugs and a couple of wood signs and put them out into the world of Facebook and the reaction from people was amazing, thus, Stella Presley Designs was born.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Music is a huge inspiration for me and I use it a lot in my designs. I love combining different artistic elements, music and humor and creating one of a kind designs. Music can be really personal, and it’s been so fun see people use my work to express things they want to express to others in such different and fun ways. Putting my business out there was one of the harder things I have done, especially not knowing how people would perceive it. Building a business as an artist is a lot of putting yourself out there, whether it’s online or at art shows or events and can be challenging sometimes, especially if you happen to have an event that bombs. Remembering that your whole career and message isn’t written off of dud event or a slow spell in your business is so important, that isn’t defining of your business isn’t easy, but picking yourself back up and doing it again is going to be what moves you forward. I hope that people see my brand and hear my story and realize that life, even when challenging, is so much better with laughter and good vibes.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am pretty blessed to live in an awesome little mountain town with tons of amazing activities, hikes, food, and scenery. You can’t have a trip to Glenwood Springs without visiting Sunlight, whether you are skiing or hiking – it’s gorgeous! Next, a bite to eat at one of the many amazing restaurants here, The Grind, The Rivera, Native Son, The Pullman, Smoke….I could go on for days! Then finally a sunset dip in the Iron Mountain Hot Springs.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am SO blessed to have such a solid support system. My family and the raddest group of friends are always cheering me on, even when I get the craziest ideas and picking me up when I fall down or get discouraged. It’s an amazing feeling to know that you have got people believing in you and I am so grateful for them all.
