We had the good fortune of connecting with Byron-Gabriel Proutt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Byron-Gabriel, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well, I have loved interviewing people for a VERY long time. I even have this old Facebook Page for a project I did YEARS ago titled; Conversations with Byron-Gabriel. That being said, as a publicist (another business of mine) I feel everything needs a brand and name. So when I decided to interview people and create a documentary I felt it was no better time than any to start a Production Company so that I can produce my projects and anyone else that wanted to hire us as a Production Company. We also offer other services like Family Memories Videos. It’s been one of our most popular services; Good Duck Productions will come to your location, set up audio and video equipment for you to interview your family member(s).
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The road for most of us (people in marginalized communities; I am in two of those communities) prove to be hard regardless. HOWEVER, when we accomplish a goal (well let me speak for me), it’s amazing. The point of Good Duck Production is to create projects that matter. So we can all learn about on another. That came from my own personal experiences. Because I would show up in some spaces and be hated. I would always think to myself, “they do not know me. At least let me be and a-hole first THEN hate me.” haha
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Well this depends on the crowd: For the most part, I would take them on a hike. To show them true beauty
of Colorado. I would take them to Ouzel Falls. However, my first hike ever is at Mount Falcon (local hike).
Then if they wanted to night life action, I would take them to Hamburger Mary’s for some ‘pregaming” and then X Bar to end the night out with good people and great music.
I would also look up some exhibits. Most of my friends are either in arts or appreciate the arts. So finding an exhibit and the Denver Art Museum never fails me.
I have some weird friends (lol!). For that crowd, I would treat them to Meow Wolf; they all love that place. I will buy them tickets and send them there as I stay back and cook a big meal for them.
I am a huge introvert, so the downtime during guest visits help me. 😉
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
May I be honest .. I want to give this shout out to God; my Heavenly Father that NEVER gave up on me. And I want to shout out to that young black kid, living in Texas with dyslexia. That dude. He fought when he didn’t want to fight. He cried a lot. He was a sad a lot. However, my God, he is here today and thriving.
