Meet Caitlin Philp | Owner of Me Oh My

We had the good fortune of connecting with Caitlin Philp and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Caitlin, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I don’t even know if I had such a thought process. I had been working for some amazing small businesses while working my way through my degrees and, to be fully honest, I felt my work at those small businesses were more important than my degrees. I did complete those degrees, in between a two year hiatus in the Peace Corps in China. But didi return from the Peace Corps, finished my course work in my Masters and started working at another small business/coffee shop. Felt bored for a hot second and started making pies on the side. It all snow balled from there.
But I guess, to answer your question…. the first coffee shop I worked at taught me that a coffee shop had nothing to do with coffee, but community. So, build your community, ALSO, serve them great food and drinks. But it is ALL about building the community. And that’s what we have ALWAYS focused on from day one.

What should our readers know about your business?
Wow, this is a BIG question. 13 years in. Starting the business probably used to be my biggest challenge….. but the years have gone by… and it’s all a blur of babies being born…baking with an infant needing to be breastfed… farmers markets with babies strapped to my body….. COVID… Pivoting our entire business model to stay alive….Opening Loveland… All the buildouts…. Alllll the struggles… mentally/financially/physically.
Like where to even start?
What sets us apart? Well, we are and have always maintained homemade from scratch. We cook like your grandma did. It takes more time, probably isn’t the most financially responsible way to do things in these times… but we refuse to stop doing it that way. When you buy a meal from us, it was made from scratch.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
1) Little Bird Bakery. My fellow baker Amy has built and fought to build such an amazing space.
2)Walk through CSU
3)Big City Burrito (duh)
4) Bike ride that includes the bridge at Lions Park
5)Beers at The Swing Station and hopefully a patio show.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have my entire community and family to shout out to over the years. Gosh, it’s been 13 years now. My parents first and foremost. Even leaving the path I had been taking through school and everything else, they supported me 1000%. My husband’s family, especially his dad, has been behind us even through the tough transition times. MY HUSBAND! I had our second child via C-Section and then that baby had RSV at two weeks old and that was when I looked t him and said, “You have to quit your job and help with Me Oh My”… and he’s never faltered. The growth of Me Oh My would NEVER have happened without him. Going back in history, there is THE BIGGEST THANK YOU to Gib’s Bagels for letting me use their bakery for far longer than I thought without hesitation or complaint (or charge). They are FOREVER the most giving small business in town. Go support them…they are the TRUEST small business Fort Collins has to offer. And a huge part of who we are today.
