We had the good fortune of connecting with Cameron French and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cameron, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Being an artist has been my dream since I was a kid, but it wasn’t until the pandemic when we were all working from home that I allowed myself the time and grace to get back into creative practices – and I’m so grateful for that opportunity to do so. I only started a few years ago, but I’m already putting the pieces in place to make this my full-time career eventually. We need more art, especially today. As artificial intelligence and technology advance to replace the human spirit and perspective, we have to be more diligent than ever to share our talents.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Selfishly, I’ve always tried to create art around the central idea of “What would my friends and I love?”. This has helped me stay inspired and driven with all of the art that I’ve created, and it’s also helped me focus in on the audience that matches a lot of my interests! Queer culture, video games, film, and music are all integral aspects of the art that I create!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
While I love taking friends to RiNo and LoHi, my husband and I live in the Valverde neighborhood and are surrounded by some of the best global cuisines in the city. The Asian and Hispanic population in this area is filled with families who have carried generations’ worth of recipes, artistry, and more — and I definitely would want anyone visiting to experience that magic that we’re lucky enough to tap into every day! You also can’t visit Denver without getting up into the mountains for at least a day or two, so there would be hikes, shopping, and relaxing hangs in some surrounding mountain towns. Living in Denver gives us that perfect mix of modern metropolitan and nostalgia through nature.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My initial start as an illustrator was inspired by the team at Kinda Funny. As a fan of their content and community engagement since before they even launched in 2015, I’ve learned so much from them about actively listening to their audience, pivoting when the market calls for it, and most importantly, trusting themselves enough to pursue their dreams.
