We had the good fortune of connecting with Camila Camomila and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camila, how do you define success?
Have time and energy to create. Being able to impact people in a positive way and inspire them.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Pursuing being an artist in the world is not an easy task, being poor and from a very simple and uneducated family where has not other way to succeed and follow your dreams is even harder. I’m glad that besides all that I had people I’m my life that always support my dreams somehow. My life has been inclined to art since very early and I pursued study art, it was very hard. Lack of money to support it, school strikes and political instability in Brazil, but all this negative combo just made me build more strength to keep on going. On the way I’ve learned to be patient and keep on practicing, and to don’t have a competitive mind about creation. It’s easy to fall in Vanity when people show admiration, always be humble and open to learn more.
To me, the most important about my art is show a message to the world, is not only about beauty of it, but the significance that art contributes.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fort Collins is a fun and artsy city, I love the buildings in old town, so a simple walk can bright some eyes. Second the poudre river and camping/hiking areas around, Colorado is very pretty and Fort Collins is a nice location between the recluse and social. I have a very good and creative group of Brazilian friends, we like bars like Trail Head, Ilegal Pete’s… Or going to concerts at the Aggie, dance at the R Bar.
Fort Collins is a fun place!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
All the teachers, technicians and staff of the Fine Art school of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro.
