We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Marley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Candice, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Persistence. The an ability to keep going and keep focused on the end goal, despite the challenges that arise, is the #1!key to my success. If at any point I had stopped due to circumstance, I would have never made it to success.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the Executive Director of All Souls Denver. I am also the CFO and owner of Bookkeeping & CFO Solutions 5280. I am a second generation US citizen on my father’s side. My grandfather hid in a banana boat to get from Brazil to the US. He was an undocumented worker. His life was hard and he died young, but he laid the foundation for magnificent legacy
It has taken me decades of hard work to get to where I am at today. I started my accounting firm 12 years ago as a single mom leaving the security of Corporate America in search of more freedom and time with my kids.
I started All Souls last year out of a passion that had been growing in my heart for many years..
Over the past decade I have experienced some of the hardest challenges I ever faced including being the victim of a violent crime. I have kept going and working hard no matter what has happened.
Every day I get up at 4am and start to grind. I work when I am sick, tired, overwhelmed…I keep going no matter what and in that I found my way to success. It has not always been easy. Some days I wonder how I made it looking back.
If at any time I had stopped or been depressed about my circumstances I never would have made it to success. I have learned how to keep my vision on the end goal and ignore current circumstances. I have learned how to be tenacious and relentlessness. Now, I know nothing can ever stop me or hold me back.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a Denver native and have watched the City grow and blossom into something so beautiful over my lifetime. My favorite spots are Red Rocks. I love it during the day to hike and love going to concerts there. Old South Pearl Street farmers market in the summer is my next favorite spot. Great to check out local foods and vendors.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Definitely my children. They have had to sacrifice much while I have been pulled away due to a crisis in one of our camps or having to work every single weekend to make enough to fund all we do. I appreciate their grace.
