We had the good fortune of connecting with Casara Andre and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casara, what role has risk played in your life or career?

It was my experience as a military officer for the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps that impacted my paradigm around risk assessment and management most significantly. I also had unique exposure to exceptional leadership, team, and organizational training that have continued to serve me well throughout the civilian portion of my career.

Medical practitioners work with the ideas of risk tolerance and risk aversion in each case that we manage. Assessing and managing the risks and benefits of medicinal modalities on the wellbeing of our patients falls to us! Risk aversion in medicine can be as deleterious as inappropriate risk tolerance.

A balanced and holistic perspective on that risk is essential – in medicine, in business, in entrepreneurial decisions, and in managing and leading a team. The evaluation of risk must be accurate, balanced, and actionable.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?

Many business endeavors over my career have culminated in the founding of the Care for the Healer (www.careforthehhealer.org) nonprofit in 2020.

CFTH recognizes the global interdependence of human, animal, and ecosystem wellbeing and that a state of complete health includes all aspects of physical, mental, emotional, and social health; rather than merely being the absence of disease or infirmity. Achieving this state of holistic health will require a lot of work and a lot of courage from those willing to facilitate that change.

CFTH is working to support this holistic state of health by providing Healers with access to resources that support their own wellbeing and that are practically applicable in their work toward the wellbeing of others and our world.

It has been a tumultuous journey from the start of my career to this point, but I wouldn’t change any of the challenges or the successes along the way – the journey, from start to present, is what contributes to the fullness of the vision that is able to be built. As a practitioner, I intimately understand the cost of being a Healer. I understand the emotional and physical cost of spending long hours in a caregiving role. As a veterinarian, I understand the cost to the wellbeing of our animal populations when the health of human communities suffers.

I am proud and grateful to have an opportunity to support and advocate for communities of Healers around the world. To the compassionate Healers that continue to serve when your community around you needs you, to the courageous ones that are always running forward to help – thank you, your colleagues are here to watch your back.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

  • high alpine meadows of to watch storms swirl across the crest of the Continental Divide

  • talk about the mysteries of life in a hot tub under the clear skies of a Colorado winter

  • visit the animal assisted therapy groups in the area, and hug a few cows, snuggle your face into a cuddly dog

  • Evergreen rodeo on Father’s day!

  • enjoy the snowy beauty of a fresh powder day

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?

My mother.

Watching and feeling her faith, strength, courage, and compassion throughout my life has been and continues to be an incredible blessing and honor.
