We had the good fortune of connecting with Celine Goudy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Celine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
when we follow my husband from Europe to the USA in 2013 for his work, I have to reset all my food habits and try to accommodate with the local food. after 2 years it we found the food too sweet and the meat, cured meat and Charcuterie in general not adapted to our taste and for a lot of foreigners. My husband’s family was in this business for generation (farmers raising hogs and veal, ran a slaughter house to Butcher and Charcuterie shops) and I decide to make my own from his family recipes. We support lot of party and friends with our stuff and one Friend os us told me I should start my own business, there is a market, lot of people are looking high end charcuterie in the Bay area. I put in place a Kickstarter at the beginning of December 2015. 7 days later I already raised 12k and stop the kickstarter and look at all permits, licences I should have to start the business officially. We were officially open on March 2016, expended in Colorado in 2019 and move in Aurora in 2021.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Goudy’s French Cuisine is an artisanal French style charcuterie company. We offer a large choice of handcrafted sausages, pâtés, foie gras, pâté en croute, and other French delicacies. We are careful in selecting first choice ingredients and meats as well as do not use any nitrites, additives, or colorants in our products. Our main customers are consumers who order directly from our website: www.goudycharcuterie.com, but we also work closely with delis, wine bar, and restaurants. My family moved to the US from France 10 years ago. Upon our arrival, we could not find any real French Charcuterie. Since my husband’s family was in the charcuterie/butcher business back in France, we decided to use the savoir- faire and the recipes to make some sausages and pâtés for ourselves, family, and friends. Everyone who tasted our products immediately fell in love with them, and so after two years we decided to create Goudy’s French Cuisine. We are a foodie family and love good food so it’s always a pleasure to be in the kitchen cooking for people. Having created this business from scratch only on my own. From where it started, Goudy’s French Cuisines has grown to be remarkably successful in USA, 2 meat lab in 2 states and shipping in 52 states end of 2022, partnering with retail services and offering over 240 products seasonally. For a small, family-owned business, the administrative (accounting, license….) side of it takes a lot of time. It is a little bit frustrating because it is time lost to develop your business, to create new products, and find new customers. My 3 tips to anyone looking to start, run, and grow a business today: – To be aware and listen to the needs and feedback of your customers.
– Don’t neglect social medias, let people know about your business.
– Invest yourself and be ready to make sacrifices when it comes to your time.
