Meet Cenzo Cocca | Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Cenzo Cocca and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cenzo, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
I think this is a very important issue to address, the balance. Since I started working with art every day, obviously my relationship with free time has changed and I’m learning to manage the relationship between life and work.
Art helps me so much to reflect on this concept.
I think the word ‘balance’ is as much about our mind as it is about our body, and the main thing is to listen to myself in order to be in control, only then can I stay in balance.
One thing that helps me so much is the silence that Sardinia offers, I always say, here we have the chance to really get to know silence.
For me it’s the basis of life and work.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started working with art in 2016, after starting a course of study in tailoring.Almost immediately, I combined tailoring with art and started sewing on paper, and entered the world of fibre art. During the breaks, I started to play with different waste materials, including clothes pegs, and especially playing cards.
So we can say that in my production there are three different paths, one with thread, one with playing cards and one with clothes pegs.
I think all three are connected, although each one tells a different story.I don’t think I have overcome any challenges, but with commitment and perseverance I reach different levels, both personally and at work, which allow me to grow. There are so many things that the journey is teaching me, especially to look inside myself to understand who I am and where I come from, to never give up and to do everything to achieve goals, whether they are small or big.I only hope that people feel better after looking at one of my works, or that they reflect and ask themselves questions.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
well, there are many places and I could make a list. Surely we can start in Alghero, a beautiful town in the north of Sardinia, have a fish lunch at Musciora Alguer Restaurant, take a walk in the historic centre and then go visit the Azienda Sa Mandra. I would definitely stay two days in Alghero. I would definitely spend one day in Aggius, a small village in Gallura where you can find several museums and beautiful views. I think a stop in Barbagia is obligatory, in Nuoro at the Man Museum and the Mancaspazio Gallery, the Costume Museum and the House-Museum of Grazia Deledda, and then move on to Orgosolo, the village of the Murals, and then Orani at the Nivola Museum. As a last stop, although far from the rest, I would go to Pinuccio Sciola’s Giardino sonoro. On the way, you have the chance to visit several Nuraghi, for example the Nuraghe Losa. The list could be very long, I’ll stop here!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes, Chiara Manca’s Mancaspazio Art gallery
