We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Augusto and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

Chelsea: Absolutely! You know, it’s fascinating to realize that every decision we make involves taking a risk, whether we’re aware of it or not. It’s like navigating through a maze of possibilities. Personally, I find comfort in this realization because it reminds me that we are never fully stuck with one approach, and it prompts me to reflect on the kind of meaning I want to infuse into my life.

When it comes to bigger decisions, ones with higher stakes, I like to do a thorough self-assessment, and I always include my support system and most trusted friends and colleagues. I consider various aspects of my well-being—financial, physical, mental, emotional, social, and spiritual—to gauge my readiness to embrace uncertainty. It’s like taking stock of my resources and resilience. While each of these domains holds importance, my greatest guiding compass has been my own intuition and felt sense, which I have progressively gotten better at using thanks to my work with clients as a trauma-focused and somatically oriented therapist.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.

Divergent Connection is all about forging authentic bonds and finding joy in our unique journeys towards self-discovery and meaningful relationships. My path to this point has been anything but conventional. As a first-generation college graduate and the sole entrepreneur in my family, I had to carve out my own way forward. I’ve always had what my therapist calls a “scrappy nature.” When challenges loomed large, I rolled up my sleeves and sought out every resource, community, and ally that could help me realize my vision–It took a village.

Compassion has been my steadfast companion throughout this journey—towards myself and others alike. Navigating the realm of private practice hasn’t always been a smooth ride, but anchoring my intentions in compassion for self and others both keeps me resilient and focused on making a positive impact. My message to the world is simple: embrace the support around you. Interdependence is not only healthy; it’s liberating and enriched with human connection.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Chelsea: I’d definitely whisk them away to experience the breathtaking beauty of Colorado. Picture-perfect rivers, majestic mountains, and that expansive sky—Anne U. White Trail in North Boulder offers it all! As for food, well, I’m a New Englander at heart, so forgive me for not boasting about local cuisine. However, Bar Taco on Pearl St. has a vibrant atmosphere and the most delicious tacos in Boulder, in my humble opinion!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe so much of my journey to the incredible support I’ve received along the way. The Department of Vocational Rehab provided invaluable assistance with startup costs and mentorship. Neurodiverse Counseling Services nurtured my strengths and guided me into private practice. And of course, my partner, chosen family, and the ever-supportive recovery community—they’re my rock. It truly does take a village.
