We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea T and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chelsea, is there something you believe many others might not?
I’ve always struggled with the belief that “experience is the best teacher”. While there are some benefits to participating in a situation yourself, I believe learning from another’s experience can be just as or even more beneficial, especially when time and other risks are involved.
Take the pursuit of entrepreneurship, for example. The decision to pursue entrepreneurship can be very frustrating, emotional, and a costly experience, so if there is an opportunity to learn directly from another person(s) that has been where you’re planning to go, I think that opportunity is priceless!
Not only are you able to avoid common pitfalls, but you increased your chances of success dramatically.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career and education include Marketing, Sales & Corporate Communications, and Law. My interests in marketing & sales specifically began from an interest in Sociology and Psychology which I majored in initially but later replaced with Marketing.
The most enlightening experience I’ve had while working in marketing within a large corporation was the understanding that Marketing was nowhere close to the average person’s belief of marketing, and was actually closely linked to psychology.
For some reason, Marketing has become synonymous with fancy commercials, branding, colors scheme, and adverts. However, I’ve learned that marketing is truly all about research and understanding people on a psychological level. I’ve learned in my career that the best marketer is truly the marketer that has researched and compiled the most data on their ideal customer and uses that data on a human (psychological level) to draw their audience to their products and services organically.
This is what I teach and explain to new entrepreneurs that are building their businesses and developing their products for the first time. My goal through my programs is not only to focus on the “fun” side of the business but to also teach them their customers are at the end of the day people and the better and more you know them on a human level, the easier it is to sell and position their products successfully.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in the Bahamas, the majority of the time so, I’d say the options are endless.
To make sure we experience as much as we can, I’d recommend we go “Island Hopping”. We’d take a boat from the capital Nassau to the islands of Exuma to swim with the sharks and then feed the swimming pigs.
Then we’d take a quick trip to Cat Island – (which is one of the country’s best-kept secrets) for great food and even better company.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My parents have single-handled change the direction of my life through their personal sacrifices. Their decision to forgo certain luxuries and make strategic investments in my life has allowed me to learn and participate in many opportunities that have helped me be where I am today.
I believe love, support, and encouragement are often neglected in business and often thought of as secondary in importance. But, I believe it has the power to save lives, hopes, and dreams, business ideas and push us forward. I believe that wherever there is success of any kind; support, mentorship, love, and encouragement are never too far away.
