We had the good fortune of connecting with Cheryl Gerde and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cheryl, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I choose creativity in every day life because it is the part of living that feels most authentic and joyful to me. I pursued an artistic career because I am passionate about delivering that gift to everyone amidst the hustle and bustle of every day adulting. Art and play are what put beauty into living. Thus, as the owner of 8 Count Social, I empower adults to break free of limitations, to embrace their playful spirit through engaging play and art-based activities, I fully promote personal growth while eliciting the power of human connection, in the hopes of renewing a sense of vitality.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As a public school teacher I always enjoyed creating meaningful learning experiences. I worked relentlessly, crafted engaging activities to maximize learning. I realized mid career that I wanted to apply that to the zest of living fully. Taking the joy and aliveness I felt in my hobbies, my revelation that they should be combined started to take form. It has not been an easy road to educate people about why their life needs play and social connection in a world that has become very disconnected and individualistic. I want the world to know that life does not have to be a grind and the a mindset of play can infuse innovation and satisfaction into the harder moments. We all deserve enlivening PLAY!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Denver, you will really want to take advantage of playing outside like I do. Visit Cheeseman Park, City Park, or Sloan’s Lake Park for beautiful scenery while connecting with nature. I also like taking a dance class or improv class around town. Or enjoying a comedy show or taking part in collaborative games at Activate!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Shoutout to all of the artists, educators, and fellow dreamers out there that inspire me and keep me striving for new heights! You know who you are.
