We had the good fortune of connecting with Chevelle Behrns and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chevelle, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I tend to find pleasure in my immediate surroundings and everyday aesthetic. A beautiful scene or a carefully curated space bring peace to my day. By enhancing the space around me I feel that I can bring some harmony to the chaos of what I cannot control. Fresh florals are unrivaled when it comes to bringing beauty to a space. Designing with locally grown materials is the crème de la crème of my pastimes.

What should our readers know about your business?
I didn’t always want to be a florist. I found the floral industry to be quite eco-destructive. My bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Horticulture led me to my initial career at the US Geological Survey. While working in several different capacities, I came to realize that my true passion was in creating my own work and bringing my own vision to life. A month after my first child, Sam, was born and two months before Covid, I started my LLC and spent my time perfecting my craft. One thing that has always been important to me and sets me apart from others is my focus on sustainability. Whether it is in choosing the right florals or the supplies I use for floral installments, my carbon footprint is always top of mind.

Starting a small business is NEVER easy, especially during Covid! My biggest challenge was re-connecting to my brides. I wanted to make sure that their experience was just as perfect as it would have been before the pandemic. Gaining the trust of my clients throughout the process as well as my incorporation of sustainable practices is the core of my brand.

I am very careful in ensuring that I don’t use irresponsible mechanics. Eco friendly and sustainable options are often more costly or difficult but it’s my responsibility to provide my clients the very best in design while staying true to my values.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My partner has been the most nurturing and supportive presence in my journey of starting a business. His love, patience and encouragement are a crucial part of my success.
