Meet Susan Bell | Artist, animal lover, plant lover, beauty seeker.

We had the good fortune of connecting with Susan Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Susan, what is the most important factor behind your success?
my success came from constantly trying to get better and learn new things and not giving up because someone or something was discouraging

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have always loved to make art. It is My earliest memory of having fun. That and seeing my first horse. I am proud of the fact that I paint animals live, in person, and usually get a really good painting. It is not an easy thing to do. I have been told from curators of plein air shows that it can’t be done. Of course it can and for me it is the most fun. I get to know my models, its great. I overcame the challenges by just keeping on. My goal was to sell art and always get better so I always a great goal. Things change all the time. The economy, the culture, everything so the challenge is to adapt.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is a Jesuit silent retreat center near me in Sedalia. It sits on 500 aces of wildness. First we would go on a nature hike there, then go the the famous Buds Bar for lunch and see all the local color of this small town south of Denver. Next day we would go to Denver, stop at Stella’s on Pearl st for coffee then hit the Vance Kirkland and DAM downtown and have lunch at the Ships Tavern in the Brown Palace. Next day we would go to Cherokee Castle and Ranch for whatever concert or program that was going on that day.
Next day we would go for a drive & hike at the garden of the Gods near Colo Springs and just hang out in Manitou for lunch or go to the Broadmooor for something more fancy. Next Day we would drive to Estes Park and Rky mnt national park. Maybe after that my friend would be tired and just want to hang out at my house and watch the chickens and ducks. If she/he wanted another day of city activity we would go back to Denver on the light rail and start and Union Station and walk around lodo.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
In Jr highschool I had an art teacher who not only held us to a high standard of design and technique but also got us a show at the art museum and had us sell out work once a month in the school lobby. Because of Al Corollo, it never occured to me that I couldnt sell my art.
