Meet Chris Becea | Professional Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Becea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I worked in the industry prior to the digital revolution, but left photography to pursue another path after that. I always stayed in the game on the side, and after many years I decided to return to my passion and returned to photography full time in 2016. I felt I needed to get back into my creative pursuits, as well as realize my dream of working as a photographer; to be my own boss and spend the last stage of my working career doing what brings me joy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have a deep love and respect for nature, and animals in particular. What I really aim to show through my photography is the unique ‘character’ of my subjects, whether those are people, wild animals, or your pets. How did I get to where I am today professionally, and was it easy? Of course not. Being the sole employee it unfortunately is not just about taking pictures. There’s the many hours of editing, retouching, managing social media, chasing SEO performance. There is also lots of learning, such as marketing, accounting, and all the other tasks required to run a business. But in the end, it allows me to create, so therefore I view it all as a necessary part of that process.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Steamboat I recommend visiting Strawberry Park Hot Springs for a warm soak immersed in nature. For a skiing event, Mt. Werner or Howelsen Hill should meet your needs.

For a mountain biking adventure, a ride up and down Mt. Werner, or explore the miles of trails in the back country.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yampatika is an outdoor education organization that I partner with to offer photography classes, and has been a wonderful supporter of my business. One of my favorite birds to photograph are Sandhill Cranes. The Colorado Crane Conservation Coalition has been a huge supporter of my photography as well as my volunteer efforts for this great organization!
