Meet Chris Bossom | Nutrition Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Bossom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
Working from home for over 6 years has granted me so much freedom and balance I never thought was possible. Prior to stepping into a career as a Nutrition Coach I had a predictable Mon-Fri 9am – 5pm schedule that kept me in check. When I took the leap to become a Nutrition Coach working from home I had to have structure, rituals, and routines to keep me on top of my work, or else work would come after living life and having “fun”. I had to learn the value of maintaining routines with my bedtime and wake-up time, morning rituals to help me step into my day with positive intention and set the tone for the day so I could show up as my best-self for my clients. If I wasn’t filling my cup first I wouldn’t have much to pour from it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started as a client of Working Against Gravity over 6 years ago to get my nutrition in check once and for all. I realized asking for help was a superpower and I needed to do more of that. After losing 60 lbs in 2 years my entire perspective was changed. I realized I had the power to do anything I put my mind to and started to change things in my life that didn’t serve me any longer. I had started the process of training to become a nutrition coach for WAG while operating as a Salesforce Administrator for an ad tech company. After a year there I got the call I was being laid off with a few other employees which I took in stride because I had already started to pursue something I was really passionate about after seeing how it transformed my life. All I cared about was gaining the skills, knowledge, and expertise to use my experience and journey to help as many people as possible. I overcame the challenges by being willing to make as many mistakes as necessary along the way. Just like I had to figure out my nutrition through trial and error I had to figure out how to work for myself, keep a schedule, stay task-oriented, and show up as my best self every day for my clients.
What I want the world to know about me is I truly believe everyone is capable of anything they set their minds to. They may need extra help and accountability in order to do so, and that’s ok. We all need help sometimes and learning to ask for it when it’s needed most is one of the most vulnerable things a person can do. If I hadn’t asked for help from WAG 6 years ago I don’t know where I’d be today. I am truly grateful and proud of what I get to show up and do for my clients every day. 🙂

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d take them to one of the most beautiful places I’ve discovered in Colorado which is Lake Isabelle in the Indian Peaks Wilderness. Every time I go there it’s a different experience and I’m constantly in awe of how beautiful that location is year-round. I’d take them to S. Broadway’s Illegal Pete’s for food and margs on the patio afterward and catch a comedy show at any of the amazing free showcases around Denver or head straight to Comedy Works which is always a great time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Two of the best books I’ve read in past years has been Atomic Habits by James Clear and Think Again by Adam Grant. Both are incredible thinkers and have a profound way of simplifying bigger ideas. I quote both of them often to my clients. I’d like to shoutout my company, Working Against Gravity, for providing me the opportunity to show me what I’m capable of after taking control of my nutrition and fitness. Getting a hold on that was monumental in my personal growth and extended into every part of my life including quitting a job I hated to pursue my career as a coach, leaving a relationship I wasn’t happy in, and finally showing me that what dictated my success in anything I put my mind to was the choices I was willing to make.
