We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Murray and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chris, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art and music have been the foundation of my growth and development as a human since I was a child. I did not really see myself pursuing a career in either field until I moved to Colorado in 2014 and started painting and tie dying frequently in my spare time. Guitar had always been an occasional hobby since I learned the basics in elementary school. I started writing my own songs when I moved to Colorado and jamming with a few different groups of friends for fun. In 2018 some of my best friends and I started a group, and I then realized music is and always was the path I am supposed to be on.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a songwriter and multi-instrumentalist with a live looping set up including guitar, bass, piano, percussion and my voice. My main objective when I am playing is to have fun and inspire people to do what they love and makes them feel alive. I am extremely excited about my first album, Canyon Cache, due to be released on January 1, 2023. This project has been such an amazing learning experience and inspiration to continue on my musical journey. I am where I am at today because of the support from my friends and community, everyone who has given me a chance to play music in their venue and by prioritizing what truly makes me happy. Getting where I am currently has not been easy, but I have been fulfilled beyond I could have ever imagined and reassured with love every step of the way. One of the biggest lessons I have learned is find out exactly what you want and make time to do it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Cherry Cricket! Best burger and staff in Denver by a mile high. Denver Botanic Gardens.
Drive on up the Poudre Canyon outside of Fort Collins to my favorite place on earth, the Mishawaka Amphitheater for some classic eats and river beats.
Red Rocks and Dillon Amphitheater for some lot shenanigans and a show.
See Magic Beans – the funkiest band on this side of the Mississippi.
Sputnik on Broadway for the best late-night corndog and fries you can find.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My dad, Pete, and older brother, Matt, are the greatest music mentors I could ever ask for. I am so thankful to have grown up listening to Rolling Stones, Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, Steve Miller, Sublime, Beastie Boys, Lotus, Disco Biscuits, to name a few, because of them. Words cannot describe how thankful I am to have such beautiful, supportive friends along for this ride. Your support means the absolute world to me. A very special shoutout to Caleb D’Aleo for humbly and patiently helping me record and mix my first album, Canyon Cache. Thank you so much to Brendan Poor, Brian Keller, Caleb D’Aleo, Chris Martella, Colin Reef, Eric Beutel, Joel Zeiner, Julia Kent, Rhiannon Bruns and Steve Kirsch for bringing your wonderfully creative talents to the table for this collaborative effort. I love you all so much and could not have done this without you.
