We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennie Lou Tucker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennie Lou, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When I first started my business, I was afraid of failure, and even more fearful of what others would think if I failed in my attempt to start a business. However, over time, I learned that perceived failure was often great success. My “failures” taught me how to do better the next time, and significantly grew me personally and professionally. I would highly encourage anyone who is afraid of starting, to just begin and do not be discouraged by the hard days. The most successful people you know have failed over and over again to get where they are!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Colorful expression and lively impressionism often describe my artwork. I like to think my artwork reflects who I am to others. I choose bright colors because colors seem to exude feelings of joy and happiness to viewers. I want my art to bring beauty and happiness to the world around me. Impressionism is simply an expression of what I see; I interpret the event through my paintbrush onto the canvas. I think what sets me apart is my engaging personality and my ability to paint very fast. It may seem almost contradictory, but I am an extroverted and business-minded artist. I worked very hard to build and grow my business for many years! It takes a determined attitude and hardworking mentality to persevere through the days you often can feel like a failure. We learn how to do better from our perceived failures, and often great success comes from these experiences. I think the greatest thing an entrepreneur can do is to believe in themselves, and keep getting up every day doing what you love. You are truly the only one who can live out your specific calling to be exactly who you are to the world. Find what you love and pursue it, and work hard to get better at it every day! I hope the world can see through my artwork how much I value my work and how much I appreciate my clients! I desire nothing more than to bring joy to this world and help others bring joy to those around them with my artwork.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love this city! I would take my friend to brunch at The Universal in the Highlands, then go to Red Rocks for a quick hike, maybe bring a picnic consisting of sandwiches from Curtis Park Deli, rest and relax at home before Happy Hour and dinner at one of our favorite restaurants, Senor Bear. On another day, I would take my friend to Corvus coffee for a yummy latte and fresh croissant, then for a walk in Wash Park and lunch at Chook (I love the chicken avocado sandwich), later we might get some ice cream from my favorite place, Sweet Cow on Pearl Street and dinner at Sierra in Lone Tree. There are just too many amazing places in Denver, but to list a few others – Park Burger for incredible burgers, Breckenridge Brewery or Bull and Bush Tavern for beers and good food, shopping at Cherry Creek, coffee from Novo, or Weathervane, cocktails at Death and Co or Williams and Graham. I could go on and on!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am today without the constant support and encouragement of my friends and family! My husband, Ashton gives me courage and constant encouragement to continue pursuing my passions. My mother, Mary, repeatedly affirms my gifts and tells her friends and strangers alike about my artwork. To all the clients, and supporters I have not named, you know who you are, every little thing helps – referring me to others, reposting things on social media or just buying artwork! Above all, I thank God for the gifts he has given me to steward and share with the world. Thank you to all of you!
