We had the good fortune of connecting with Chris Ruiz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chris, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal is to have a record deal that enables me to tour around the world while being financially stable enough to come home and record new music in preparation for the next one.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a singer/songwriter/guitarist. It’s a difficult thing to say you are different from all the other these days, when it almost like feels like everything has already been created. In a small sense it feels like it has, but in a larger sense I feel that we all have a unique perspectives to similar situations that happen in our lives. I am sharing my perspective with influences I have discovered in all sorts of genres. I’m most excited about completing this new album. I’ve learned that sometimes too much patience can be a flaw, and that there comes a point when you need to get out of your own way and get it done.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If you’re coming to Boulder, it’d be a crime to not get into the mountains. I’d prefer to be climbing more so than hiking, so we’d probably get a crew together and go Bouldering in Eldorado Canyon State Park. After climbing, we’ll head over to one of the suns; Southern Sun/Mountain Sun/Under the Sun and have food/drinks. At some point in the trip we will see some incredible views at the Lost Gulch Overlook in the Flatirons. At night we will check out some local bands play at the Fox/Boulder Theater and afterwards head over to License No.1 to have an old fashioned before we walk over to the Pub and try not lose false pride on the pool tables.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shoutout to a dear friend, Johnny Whelden. He was not only one of my biggest fans (as I was of his), but an incredible human. He was always encouraging and really knew how to make me feel stoked and motivated to keep pursuing my passion in music. We lost Johnny to suicide in May of 2021. It’s been a difficult and challenging year to say the least. However, I find myself feeling ready to not only make myself proud but Johnny as well. Rest in peace my friend, we miss you.
