We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Dyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, how do you think about risk?
For me risk taking corelates to curiosity and being receptive to trying new things in my business as much as my personal development. It is most definitely framed around a growth mindset and how we view perceived challenges before we take the first step. This has been a consistent, life-long attribute of mine, to always be reaching and stretching into new territories and never settling for stagnation. There is no going backwards, only forward momentum. Of course, there are instances throughout life that can and will deter the acceleration of progress. Creating a resiliency with emotions, ego and energy are foundations that I’ve incorporated into my personal philosophy and work ethic. I have learned that when I make decisions within my values around personal relationships and business, I do not second-guess myself anymore, which allows a freedom and peace-of-mind. There is a wisdom in knowing and trusting yourself and learning from feedback from our decisions.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As I touched briefly on my earlier programming, my first three decades were designed around conformity and being / performing roles that were ‘handed’ or expected to / of me. My earliest successes and consistencies were shaped around developing impeccable customer service experiences and building my professional and leadership skillsets. High nurture and knowledge characteristics chiseled that early adult version of myself.
Love and respect for individuals in whatever role I occupied, plus being the team player I would want on my team sum up the individual I am today and how I show up. The occupations, positions, either paid or voluntary are not the only important premise of the value of who I am. They have relevancy in the competency in the how and capacity to serve on many levels.
My insatiable curiosity and always knowing there is more, allowed me to quickly transition from employee to CEO in 2005. I developed an on-line presence and flew wide-open in a free space to create wealth around raising a family, volunteering in my community and creating an additional identity in the health and wellness space. The fitness world offered the balance and means to develop my physical backbone. There is no secret that the mental backbone is connected to honoring your physical endurance and flexibility.
After several years, the desire to evolve the business into a creative endeavor became a primary focus. After several moves and transitions around the US, Embellished Butterfly was launched in 2019 as a way to offer customized gifts to our individual clients and in the retail industry. The desire to scale the business would be to allow military wives to help in our production capacity with the flexibility they needed around family life.
The challenge of 2020 slowed the momentum of scaling initially as the hospitality industry struggled. The adaptation we offered was to provide creativity and connection through online workshops. Virtual technology also provided many opportunities to network and connect with individuals globally. Thus, the collaboration collective of Positively Panache gifts was inspired. The ability to offer other creative entrepreneurs the opportunity to market their products through our vast networks of retail, social media and word-of-mouth continues to flourish.
The ability to scale our production in 2021 was enhanced by our relationship with Rubi’s Positive Empowerment here in Colorado Springs. Their mission is to match adults with disabilities with their ideal employers. This relationship has provided us with the means of serving our community in a unique capacity. Our first production partner is allowing us to train and work with her while she is gaining valuable working skills, and income, adding value to our community while using her creative talents.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Colorado Springs has a vibrant Downtown vibe that I love and is central to many of the outdoor attractions. Many of the local eateries are unique and offer some eclectic options. In the evening, Coati Uprise is one of the newer experiences that offers great energy, entertainment, nibbles and cocktails. During the summer months, many of the other venues offer outdoor seating, which would always be my first choice.
For outdoor adventures, Garden of the Gods is a typical destination that offers beauty and walking / hiking opportunities. Helen Hunt Falls is another easy favorite. The drive through the canyon offers unique landscapes and more trails for the curious to lose themselves in nature.
The entrepreneur community is alive with diverse opportunities to connect with business owners for support. There are several groups that serve the local small businesses in addition to more global connecting opportunities. With emphasis on business, relationships or personal development, there is something for everyone.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The wisdom in the lessons is evaluating ALL of the investments, education, career and personal roles, feedback and distinguishing the consistencies that have always been in full view, yet our ego tries to protect us from what is our truth…
Success is the impeccable relationship you have with yourself and discovering your true calling. Next, is creating fulfilling relationships with others in our social circles and business. Within the past three years, this has been my new home and capacity that keeps growing. The best part is that it is magnetic and occurring organically, with peace and ease.
A Maya Angelou quote that was quoted in a Brene Brown book ‘The Gifts of Imperfection’ states “you only are free when you realize you belong no place – you belong every place – no place at all” is profound for me and encapsulates that success of belonging to myself first. Then, I can belong wherever I choose to be that resonates and who I am called to be to serve.
There are endless courses, lessons, guides, mentors, authors, poets, lyricists to name in this context. I continue to evolve as I acquire NEW wisdom and knowledge in the snippets and nuggets that I continue to invest my energies in. They all hold space in my psyche and heart and soul…my personal treasure chest.
