We had the good fortune of connecting with Christy Sinkey and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
After graduating from CU Boulder in 2000, I jumped into the “next phase” of my life, choosing to teach pre-kindergarten during the day and dance classes at 4 different studios during the evening in Longmont, Niwot, Boulder and Westminster. Needless to say, that schedule was not sustainable. I came to the conclusion that what would be better would be to open my own studio (with my then long time dance teacher turned friend Stephanie Roth) and create a studio that filled in all the gaps and needs that I was witnessing in all the other studios where I was teaching during that time. Our goal was to build a studio where we would have wanted to grow up dancing….a dance studio that had classes for all ages and abilities and that truly celebrated life through dance; and was a safe place for dancers to feel a real sense of community, belonging and sense of self. And to be as creative and silly as we wanted to be, while style encouraging hard work, dedication and personal growth.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Grace Studios, we have a team of instructors who truly love dance and love to teach dance. We are incredibly passionate about our dancers as whole humans. We care endlessly about not only their dance training, but also about the humans they are becoming and the experiences and opportunities we create that shape them as dancers. Our teaching team constantly strive to lead by example; by showing that not only does it take hard work and dedication to succeed, but also compassion, understanding, love, knowledge and to continue to choose to show up for each other.

We are proud that we have been recognized at competitions for our dancers’ performances and versatility, But we are even more proud of how our studio is often recognized by our show of support and community,..and that the dancers and their instructors and families continue to choose to show up for each other on and off stage.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A week long itinerary is so diverse in Colorado depending on the weather! If I were introducing Colorado to someone and had a magic wand to switch up the seasons every day, I think some of the highlights are Fall: hiking in the foothills and Flatirons area and catching a Broncos and CU Football game, Winter: SKIING – need I say more (Snowmass and Copper are two of my favorite spots)?!! My spring is usually filled with dance and competitions and school events, so maybe join me at a Grace Studios dance performance! Summer is the best time to be with family and friends – boating on Horsetooth, family fun at Water World or a Rockies Game, or camping and off roading all over Colorado!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents and my husband are the reason I am who I am and do what I do. My mom always encouraged my love of dance and supported me, my children and the studio endlessly. My dad taught by example why having your own business that you are passionate about is the very best way to live your life, and my husband for the inspiration, guidance and never ending love and strength he provides our family.
