We had the good fortune of connecting with K Lizardo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi K, what is the most important factor behind your success?
100% the kind people who were patient enough to be some of my first clients.

Word of mouth is everything in the photography business, which has really made itself evident when I picked up my business and moved it to a different state. My clients who trusted my vision and stuck it out to the end are the reason I am here today.

Klicks really started as an eleven year old girl who loved taking pictures, and who loved creating a story with the images. My parents bought me a point and shoot canon, and my poor little sister was forced to model for me. From there I bought my first camera when I was 16 with my very first paycheck from my job. My mom was kind enough to tell her friends about my love for taking pictures and I started doing photoshoots for free. When it started picking up my mom and others told me I needed to be charging for my work. Which is when I created Klicks.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
There is something so special and nostalgic about looking back at pictures from an important day. Those are the images I strive to create for people; I want raw moments, tender touches, being able to hear the laugh from the picture. My photography started out where everyone begins when they try something new… horrible. I am self taught, I learned everything about my camera from trial and error. I’ve had my fair share of failure, but eventually I gained confidence in my skills and sharpened the ones I was still insecure on. I think it is important too that I continue to learn more about how to frame images, the different styles of lighting, and the continually updating editing software. Outside of the technical elements of photography I absolutely love getting to know my clients. The beginning of any photoshoot is always going to be you and the clients getting comfortable with one another. It is important that you create an environment that welcomes vulnerability and fosters confidence. I love being able to share these special moments with my clients and I also LOVE being their number one hype woman. Everyone deserves photos that make them feel beautiful and seen.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
As someone who has just moved to Colorado in the last 3 months, I am still learning the spots. However, I have done some exploring and found some of my favorite places to show friends and family who visit. My favorite place I found found to eat is Snooze A.M. and Eatery. This is the spot to eat brunch, and I am a girl who loves a brunch moment. The waitresses and waiters are all extremely friendly and helpful, the environment is welcoming, and the food is to die for. After we go to brunch we of course have to go on a hike. One of my favorite places to hike is the Golden Gate Canyon State Park, they have a wide variety of hikes for different levels of hikers. I have taken my parents, my husband, and friends here for photography and for hiking. I would take them to dinner in downtown Parker because it feels like a simpler time. There are people out enjoying dinner on the patios, there are lights across the streets, and there is live music flowing through the air. The next day we would for sure eat breakfast at Legends Coffee, they have the smoothest espresso, tons of flavor options, and the food has vegan and gluten free substitutions. We would then head over to the Denver Botanical Gardens, this is one of my favorite places to visit, especially when you are stressed. A visit to the gardens feels like 6 hours of rest. We can then eat overlooking one of the ponds at the HIVE Bistro. To end the night I would take them on a walk with my puppy, Iroh and grab pizza at Beau Jo’s for the iconic mountain pie style crust.
