We had the good fortune of connecting with Christyana Fletcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christyana, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I’m from a small town called Cottonwood, in Arizona. There’s not much to do there, so I spent a lot of my childhood reading or down by the river. I think being alone with my imagination so often fueled a lot of my creativity today, and spending time in nature gave me an appreciation for beautiful places.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My brand is very personal and creative. I love to work with clients to come up with unique ideas for shoots that really capture their personalities. It’s important to me that my clients have fun and feel comfortable during their shoots, which is why my favorite photos are ones where clients are laughing uncontrollably. Lately, it’s been difficult to run a photography business starting from complete scratch. I’ve begun developing my portfolio and website, but gathering traction online is difficult. One thing i’ve learned is to remain consistent and interact with others as much as possible. Clients want to get to know you, not just your work!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would easily start with oak creek canyon in Sedona Arizona. It’s a stunning location not only for photography but also for swimming, hiking, and just spending a day. Some of my favorite places to eat include Bocce in Cottonwood AZ and Pizzicletta in Flagstaff (can you tell I love pizza?). I love to hike on the trails located around Lake Mary in Flagstaff and one of my favorite photo locations and generally cool places to visit is Two Guns about 40 minutes outside of Flagstaff.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I think the person who most deserves recognition for my accomplishments is my father, Jose Razo. He’s been my biggest supporter since day one and has always encouraged me to follow my ambitions. He keeps me grounded and his love reassured me on every step of my journey. I also think my fiancé, Dartagnon Woodruff, deserves credit for supporting me and being behind me in every shoot and project. We are an amazing creative team and I couldn’t do half of what i’ve done without him by my side.
