We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Perchess and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nick, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Walking in and with Integrity. Holding to our core values from start to finish on our agricultural journey.
Leading by example in our purchase power and our due diligence of educating our community in continuing to close the gap from producer to consumer.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Our business Nola Naturals Farms is primarily a Pasture Poultry operation established in 2014. Servicing our community in a direct to consumer platform supported under State Poultry Guidelines for small Producer Production. Something that sets us apart is the quality and care that goes into and comes out in our finished products. Through Holistic management practices for both the land and the animals we are not only offering customers clean, ethically raised meat products and building relationships, but we are also diligently working on repairing our natural Eco-systems, by that of land, soil and our water cycle through regenerative farm practices. We are super excited for the 2022 season as we move into being one of three State Exempt Poultry Processing facilities allowing once under inspection to run upwards to 20,000 Non GMO, Beyond Organic Pasture Raised chickens. The new license is not just for whole birds direct to consumer, but now 8 plus other value added products including the market expansion of wholesale in the state and shipping. Allowing us to get our chicken to the “world” of Colorado! Its been a long 7 year road in order to get into the current position we are in. Laws were lobbied for to change production numbers in the State of Colorado which took years, finding enough and the right land, financing, growing a market (always in continuum), long farming days, investments, losses, moving and leaving our community of a near decade to pursue our dreams. Its been life and there is still more to come. I think this family is driven by challenges and enjoys learning even from our failures, it makes us more humble and appreciative and grow stronger as a family. Every step is just that and you just keep putting one foot in front of the other. We cry ,we cuss we hug, we pray and keep dreaming the goals into fruition. We do our best everyday, with hopes of doing even better the next and that’s all you can do. We are an open gated farm and will always encourage you to know your farmer and see where your food comes from, Local.Integrity.Food. that’s us.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We haven’t had a lot of time to explore our new community in Pueblo County as we moved on to our forever earth-ship/new farm in April of 2021. The few places we have had a chance to spend time and would recommend would be The State Fair in August, The Pueblo Chili Festival that happens in late September, and of coarse Next year will be Nola Naturals 14th Annual Community Gratitude Dinner/Potluck in November, a little plug in there. Your best experience though will be to just look up when the sun goes down, epic sunsets and beautiful starry nights.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We have had so many mentors in Agriculture over the past 8 years and I’m going to try and refrain from a novel and to name drop a few.
All of these folks have attributed to our success and us reaching our goals so its hard to pin point one, because with out this family of producers community shakers and knowledgeable peers all supporting each other, I just don’t know.
APPA American Pasture Poultry Association,
RMFU Rocky Mountain Famers Union,
NYFC National Young Farmers Coalition,
Buttercup Farms, Jumping Good Goat Dairy, Weathervane Farms, Ring A Ding Farms, Badger Creek Ranch, Oswald Cattle Company, Erins Greens, Colorado Food-shed Alliance, WestCliffe Makers Market, CFAM Colorado Farm and Art Market, The Grainery, Larga Vista Ranch, Hobbs Family Farms, Rocky Mountain Garlic, Excelsior Farmers Exhange, Valley Roots Food Hub, Dru Beez the list is long and can continue for pages. We are so thankful for all that you do for the land, food, watersheds and communities across our great state!
