We had the good fortune of connecting with Chukwufumnanya Camara and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ChukwuFumnanya, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My name is Fumnanya Camara, and I am the Owner and Managing Broker of Camara Real Estate. When my family and I arrived in the United States, we all had big dreams of thriving and building wealth in our new country. Our vision was to not just survive but to thrive but we oftentimes found ourselves caught in a cycle of paying bills and having just enough. Things finally shifted when my mother bought her first home. She was wise enough to buy a house that was below her means. A few years later, she bought another. For me, watching my mother become a landlord was transformative. I was able to see firsthand how this impacted her cash flow, taxes, and her ability to have financial independence. I wanted this for myself. After graduating from college, I was inspired to follow her path and buy a home of my own. Unfortunately like many immigrants, I faced my own challenges. For one, I had no credit. I had to build my credit from scratch, well with the help of my mother. My mother’s journey planted a seed in me, showing me the power of homeownership to break free from survival mode. That inspiration is what led me to start Camara Real Estate. With Camara Real Estate, I am dedicated to helping others find not just a home but a foundation for financial growth and stability. In 2024, I was honored to receive the DMAR Pathways Award, which recognized my work in supporting Black and Brown families not only in achieving homeownership but also in securing grants and supporting them to become investors.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
At Camara Real Estate, we are dedicated to more than just buying and selling homes. we are about building foundations for financial independence and empowering others to move from simply surviving to truly thriving. What sets us apart is our commitment to guiding clients to achieve long-term stability through homeownership, grant assistance, and becoming investors. Seeing families achieve what once felt like an impossible goal brings me incredible joy.
The journey to building Camara Real Estate was anything but easy. As an immigrant, I faced the same obstacles many of my clients encounter. I had to navigate complex credit systems and build true mastery by understanding the ins and outs of real estate. There were setbacks, but I was committed to learning and surrounding myself with mentors and allies who believed in my vision. These experiences have taught me the value of resilience. I want the world to know that at Camara Real Estate, we are about more than transactions. We are about building a legacy beyond homeownership. We want to create pathways to wealth and security for families. My story, and the story of my business, is about breaking barriers and helping others do the same. I am most proud of the trust we have built with our clients. Many of our clients are proud to write us a 5 star review on Google.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a mother of four, I’m always on the lookout for activities that keep my kids engaged and active. I love anything that lets them explore and be creative, especially places like parks where they can run around and enjoy the outdoors. I’m also a fan of unique activities like the kids’ cooking classes at Uncorked Kitchen & Wine Bar, which combine fun and education by letting kids get hands-on in the kitchen. It’s a great way for them to learn new skills while making memories together.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would love to dedicate my shoutout to my mother, Patience Egbune. Her journey and resilience continue to inspire me daily. Despite how hard it was, she became a homeowner and secured a better future for our family. I also want to recognize my family for allowing me to work so hard.
