Meet Connor Foley | Tattoo Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Connor Foley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Connor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always had a desire to start a business or businesses since I was a kid. I think I just like the idea of making something that I can share with others and support myself and my family with. When I started Vegvisir Body Art in 2018, it came after years of working in the tattoo industry and wanting to try something different and strike out on my own path. I wanted to create a space that was uniquely mine and that could help offer up to other artists and clients a great experience and more than just getting a tattoo. I always want everyone that comes through our doors to have a wonderful time and a great memory of when they got their tattoo.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art style is admittedly very niche. I specialize in dark art/ surrealism and gothic symbiology. Artists that you might know that i take influence from would be HR Giger and Paul Booth, along with many others. I think what sets me apart from others that are doing similar styles of art is my intent and meaning behind each piece. While my art may look dark and spooky to most, it always has a positive meaning and purpose behind it. I tend to do a lot of skulls, creatures, and aliens and such with some biomechanical/ organic themes, and while some might look at these as evil and scary, I have a different view, and so do my clients. I look at these works as putting gargoyles on humans. Gargoyles were put on churches and other buildings in order to ward off the evil spirits and negative energies in this world. So when I am putting a skull, creature, or whatever the subject happens to be on someone, I look at this as giving them a protector. This gnarly looking being is meant to be the armor for this person, protecting them from the negative energies in this world and helping to empower and build them up through everything in their lives.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Its hard to fit everything into a week! Colorado has such a wide variety of wonderful things to see and offer. I would probably try and get them up to Estes Park to see the Stanly hotel and the rocky mountain national park. Red Rocks would be another super fun thing to show people, preferably for a great concert! Other than that there are so many wonderful hiking trails and outdoor activities. I also would love to show them around to a bunch of our awesome local breweries and have them sample the huge variety of craft beers that Colorado is so blessed to have.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I am so lucky to have had so many people supporting me and encouraging me throughout my career and life. If I had to choose one overall though, I would have to choose my wonderful wife Elizabeth Foley. She has been with me from the beginning of this business and has supported and helped build me up even when I was at some really hard points in my life or being overly hard on myself. She has an amazing drive and love for helping others that I absolutely love and try to emulate as best I can. Her love and support means the world to me, and I can say for certain I wouldn’t be where I’m at today without her!
