Meet Corinna Sayward | Muralist/ Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Corinna Sayward and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Corinna, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
For me taking a risk is the only way I could really start my career as a full-time professional artist. I knew it was going to take an extreme amount of work and self promotion along with sacrifices as far as being comfortable financially and sticking with something that I knew could guarantee me a steady income. But the risk was completely worth it to me because I knew ultimately being a full-time artist is what I really want and it brings me a man’s happiness and fulfillment and I love what I do. I feel like every painter hast to take that initial leap and risk when it comes to transitioning into being full time.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a very personal journey on display for others to see I’m working on a series right now and I’m about to have my first solo show with this series that I called the Chaos studies. The cow studies is a series of mixed media abstract paintings that I started when I felt very internally conflicted and the response that I’ve gotten from sharing this very raw and vulnerable series has been incredible and massively supportive. I like to think my large scale and small scale artwork no matter what, is an opportunity and window for everybody to connect to each other in a very human sense as far as what it means to be a human being and how it feels.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were joining me in the area around Virginia Beach and Norfolk I would definitely show them the vibe district and the neon district because they are the best creative districts and I would also take them to this lovely little spot name session with the best breakfast and lunch food that I have ever tasted and it’s so good for you.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to thank the ViBe district of Virginia Beach, VA and one of the founders Kate Pittman for giving me the opportunity to become involved in local arts. I’d also like to thank everyone in the Hampton roads that supports what I do and let’s me know that, it really keeps me going and is motivational!
